According to Calhoun County
Clerk of Elections Jill Stout, no one
filed to fill the position of Bedford
Township supervisor, a position held
by Carl Kinzel who was chosen in a
special February election to fill the
seat left vacant by the resignation of
Joanie Jones.
Kinzel did not file for re-election.
“Carl Kinzel will be in that seat
until the election is certified on Nov.
20, 2024,” explained Stout. “No one
filed to run for that seat but there is
an opportunity to become a write-in
candidate on the Aug. 6 ballot and if
they receive enough votes, would be
on the November ballot under their
party affiliation.”
As of July 10, only Rande Johnson
has filed a declaration of intent
to run as a write-in candidate for
Bedford Township supervisor, said
Clerk Joyce Feraco. The deadline is
Friday, July 26 at 4 p.m.
Aug. 6 Primary Races
Bedford Charter Township
Feraco, the incumbent republican
clerk, is being challenged for her job
by republican Dennis McKinley. No
democrat filed for the seat.
Christy Davis, a republican, is the
only person running for township
treasurer and the entire township
board, made up of four trustees, has
seven newcomers - four republicans
and three democrats - vying for those
four, four-year open positions.
Seeking their party’s nomination
to run in November for the four seats
are republicans Stacy Greenwood
and Shannon Hoskins, democrats
Anthony Hough and Zachary
McCarty, republicans Gene McKay
and Bruce Meineke and democrat
Judy VanGoethem.
Emmett Charter Township
Four people - three republicans
and one democrat - are hoping to be
the next Emmett Charter Township
supervisor, a job held for the last four
years by republican Deb Belles who
is seeking re-election.
Challenging her for the republican
nomination are Michael Bye and
Tracy Myers, while democrat Myrna
Coward is the sole democratic candi-
date for the job.
Two republicans are seeking their
party’s nomination for township
clerk, a job Tracy Myers is vacating
to run for supervisor.
They are newcomers Brandi Cary
and Debra Stewart while new repub-
lican newcomers, Toni Gore and
Tyler Sobeski, are also vying for the
treasurer’s position.
Sobeski already holds the job after
having been appointed to fill a vacan-
cy in that post left by the departure
of Rachelle Myers who resigned
Dec. 22, 2022.
Republican trustee Jim Mead
resigned March 12, 2024 and his
position was filled by the appoint-
ment of republican Ryan Leonard
who is seeking election to that four-
year position.
Incumbent republicans Steve Titus,
James Juhnke and Dick Brown are
also seeking to retain their seats but
face challenges from republicans
