Battle Creek’s Vibe@5 free sum-
mer music series continues this
Friday (July 19) with a perfor-
mance by the Beatles tribute band
Toppermost from 5-7:30 p.m. at
Friendship Park.
Toppermost follows last week’s
band Iconix – a group perform-
ing music from the ’70s and ’80s
along with Motown tunes – onto the
Friendship Park stage.
Prior to Iconix (which performed
in place of originally scheduled
Caribbean Soul Experience Quartet),
the 2024 Vibe@5 series kicked off
on July 5 with a performance by
the blues, R&B and Motown group
named Denise Davis & The Motor
City Sensations.
The Iconix band from Kalamazoo
featured Julie Brown on lead vocals,
Tim Brown on drums and vocals,

four providing vocals as well.
Following Toppermost, the
Vibe@5 series continues Friday, July

Alone (teenagers from Ontario play-
ing Beatles to Led Zeppelin) and on
Friday, Aug. 2 with the group Magic

the 2024 series ends on Aug. 9 with
Moonshot (50s to today’s hits).
Event-goers to Vibe@5 are remind-
ed to bring chairs or blankets to sit
on, and to dress for the weather.
Spectators may bring their own
water and/or soft drinks as well as

night. Plus, beverages and food by
local vendor Chef “N” Ultimate
Catering & Carry Out will also be
available for a fee at the site for each
event.
Friendship Park is also part of
the Downtown Battle Creek Social
District Area, which means that adult
drink purchases at a downtown bar or
restaurant (poured into special cups)
can be consumed at Friendship Park.
In case of inclement weather on any
particular Friday, Vibe@5 will be
moved indoors to Riverside Golf &
Banquet Center – with the announce-
ment to be made on the Kellogg

Fridays by 4 p.m.
Caribbean Festival Update
The ninth annual Battle Creek
Caribbean Festival – also an effort
of David Bauman of Ambassador
David’s Productions LLC – is sched-
uled for Saturday, Aug. 17 from
6-11 p.m. and will also involve an
after-party from 11 p.m. to later at
The Base Bar & Grill located at 3905
West Dickman Road in Springfield.
This marks the first time the fes-
tival will take place at The Base.
Previously, it was held in July at
Festival Market Square in downtown
Battle Creek.
Headlining the entertainment on
Aug. 17 will be former lead vocalist
of Bob Marley’s band The Wailers,
Lazo Johnfinn – winner of Top
Reggae Performer of the Year at the
Canadian Reggae Music Awards,
three Juno Awards (Canada’s
Grammy’s), Best Reggae Recording
Artist, Best Reggae Band and Best
Reggae Stage Performance – and his
award-winning band Exodus.
The evening, Bauman said, will
be highlighted by a “Tribute to
Bob Marley” by Lazo Johnfinn and
Exodus. Plus, Bauman said, there
will be a special guest performance
by the Reggae Sensations, and from
Senegal, West Africa, DJ & MC
Assane Dia.
Tickets for the Caribbean Festival,
Bauman said last weekend, are priced
at $5 apiece, and VIP tables are also
available. Bauman said to check The
Base Bar & Grill’s Facebook page for
details at this point about tickets, and
also that more information about the
event will be available in the coming
weeks.
