Another Athens Summer
Homecoming, held last weekend, is in
the books.
“I can’t even tell you how many
decades we’ve been doing it,” said
Athens Community Association
Secretary Treasurer Greg Moore, who
has personally been involved for over
15 years. “We started to welcome the
troops back from war (WWI), and so

we just kept it going ever since. It’s
just a neat way to get the community
together and have something fun and
social to do.”
Friday evening featured the
Homecoming Queen contest and
performances by Bethi Lewis and the
Electric Pineapple Band.
Maria Bronsink was chosen as the
Summer Homecoming Queen.
She is a National Honor Society
member, as well as a member of

Athens High School’s Spanish Club
and Science Olympiad, and she serves
as SADD/YAC President.
She is also duel enrolled at Kellogg
Community College and attends the
Battle Creek Area Math and Science
Center, where she is a leader in their
STEM outreach program, student
advisory, and horticulture club.
Bronsink has also built up a resume
of community service work, includ-
ing helping with the Athens Youth

Council, Athens Fire Department,
Athens Historical Society, Athens
Athletics, Athens Basketball Camp,
volunteering with her church and
serving as a board member for the
Athens Community Foundation.
Her other interests include piano,
running, biking, basketball and cro-
chet.
The two other candidates were
