More than 50 individual student-
athletes from Kellogg Community
College and two KCC athletic teams
received postseason academic awards
for excellence in the classroom dur-
ing the 2023-24 academic year.
Athletes from all nine KCC teams
- baseball, men’s and women’s bas-
ketball, men’s and women’s bowling,
men’s and women’s cross country,
women’s soccer and women’s volley-
ball – are represented on this year’s
postseason academic awards roster.
Honors awarded to KCC student
athletes for their academic perfor-
mance include the following awards:- The KCC Outstanding Scholar
Athlete of the Year Award, for which
a student-athlete must demonstrate
outstanding academic achievement
as well as athletic success, exhibiting
an outstanding GPA and more than
60 credit hours completed. The win-
ners are nominated by their coaches.
Just one female and one male scholar
athlete are chosen for the award each
year. - The Michigan Community
College Athletic Association
Academic All-Conference Award,
for which a student-athlete must have
completed at least 24 credit hours
in the last academic year and have a
cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. - The Academic All-MCCAA
Award, for which a student-athlete
must have completed at least 24
credit hours in the last academic year
and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20
or higher. - The National Junior College
Athletic Association All-Academic
Third Team Award, for which a
student-athlete must have completed
at least 24 credit hours in the last
academic year and have a cumulative
GPA between 3.60 and 3.79. - The NJCAA All-Academic
Second Team Award, for which a
student-athlete must have completed
at least 24 credit hours in the last
academic year and have a cumulative
GPA between 3.80 and 3.99. - The NJCAA All-Academic First
Team Award, for which a student-
athlete must have completed at least
24 credit hours in the last academic
year and have a cumulative GPA of
4.0.
Additionally, MCCAA All-
- The KCC Outstanding Scholar
Academic Team and NJCAA
Academic Team of the Year hon-
ors were awarded to teams with
a cumulative team GPA of 3.0
or higher. KCC’s baseball (3.19
GPA) and women’s soccer
(3.05) teams were named to both
lists.
One Bruin – KCC baseball sopho-
more infielder Aaron Piasecki – also
earned the MCCAA’s coveted Dick
Shilts Male Student-Athlete of the
Year award, which recognizes just
one male and female student-athlete
from the entire MCCAA “who excels
in their sport, in the classroom and in
co-curricular activities,” according to
the MCCAA.

Synopsis of Action Taken August 8, 2024
Present: Supervisor Belles, Clerk Myers, Trustee Brown, Trustee Juhnke, Trustee Leonard and Trustee
Titus.

Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Belles at 6:30 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited by
all. Roll Call was taken by Clerk Myers. There were public comments. The agenda was approved. The
consent Agenda was approved with name spelling correction. The July monthly check register was
approved. Motion to accept the Barnard quote to remove asbestos in the 1399 E. MI Ave. building before
demolition for $11,250 was approved. Motion to table computer replacements until we receive more
quotes. Motion to accept Ordinance No. 5 of 2024; Amend Variance Standards was approved. Motion to
postpone the hiring of the director of Public Safety was defeated. Motion to approve budget amendment
for the purchase of fire gear for this fiscal year 2024 in the amount of $15,515 was approved. Motion to
get another bid for Cross Connection Control Program services was approved. There was closed session
with the Attorney. There were public comments. There were Board comments. Meeting Adjourned at
7:50 p.m.
The Next Regular Board Meeting is September 12 at 6:30 p.m.
