Bethel Jane
Adamov, 104,
passed away
August 14,
2024, at home
in Spring,
Texas.
She was
born May
11, 1920, in
Ann Arbor.
She was the daughter of Fletcher
and Florence (Geiger) Boynton.
Bethel was a lifelong resident
of Battle Creek, and graduated
from Lakeview High School in
- Bethel and Louis J. Adamov
were united in marriage at First
Congregational Church in 1943
and celebrated 72 wonderful years
together.
Surviving are her daughters,
Suzanne Pifer of Spring, TX, and
Kathy (Jeff) Samson of Sanibel,
FL; grandchildren Tami (Todd)
Shawver, Tina Pifer, Tim Pifer and
Malia Samson. Also surviving are
her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn
Shawver, Jordan (Katelyn) Shawver,
Gavin Bass, Gabriella Pifer, Gigi
Pifer and Andreas Pifer; great-great
granddaughters Georgia and Annie
Shawver; and many nephews and
nieces.
She was employed by Kellogg’s in
their Traffic Department; but Bethel
really preferred and thrived as a
homemaker.
Bethel loved spending time with
her family and friends and her res-
cue dog, Teddy. Bethel was never
bored, and had several interests
and hobbies, including knitting,
sewing, baking, reading, crafting for
bazaars, coloring on her iPad, play-
ing cards and puzzles. She devoted
many loving hours to knitting baby
caps for the local hospitals. Bethel
enjoyed traveling to Northern
Michigan in the summer, Florida
and Hawaii.
She was a member of Saint Elias
Orthodox Church where she served
on the board and the sisterhood.
Bethel was a lifelong member of
Eastern Star. She served as presi-
dent of the Lakeview PTA and was
an enthusiastic member of the Red
Hat Society. At the age of 100 she
was presented the Key to the City
by the mayor of Battle Creek, Mark
A. Behnke.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. on
Sunday, August 25, 2024, followed
by a Panikhida at 6:30 p.m. at the
Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
A funeral service is scheduled
for 10 a.m. on August 26, 2024, at
Saint Elias Church, 5066 B Drive
S., Battle Creek, MI. Interment will
follow the service at Memorial Park
Cemetery, Battle Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial con-
tributions in Bethel’s memory may
be made to the Humane Society,
the American Cancer Society, or
Saint Elias Orthodox Church, Battle
Creek.

Ameter, 78, of
Three Rivers,
Michigan,
died Saturday,
August 10,
2024, at Rose
Arbor Hospice.
She was
born April 24,
1946, in Clare County, Michigan,
the daughter of Bernard and Josie
(Newman) Allen.
Darlene was preceded in death
by her husband, Russell K. Ameter,
M.D., on August 6, 2022.
She is survived by three chil-
dren, Scott (Jessica) Warner of
Marshall, LeeAnn (Mark) Middleton
of Traverse City, and Nicole (Alex
Long) Fowler of Erlanger, Ky.;
four stepchildren, Sarah Ameter
(Martin) of Kalamazoo, Rusty
(Sarah) Ameter of Lincoln, Calif.,
Andy (Elena) Ameter of Kalamazoo
and Stuart Ameter of Rockville,
Md.; and 12 grandchildren. She is
also survived by her sister Nancy
Humphrey; sister Barb (Craig)
Rozanek; and brother James(Colleen) Allen.
Darlene spent her career as a
medical assistant, helping oth-
ers. She was a very loving woman
and was strong in her faith. She
enjoyed and was active in her
community at Kline’s Resort, West
Mendon Community Church, COA,
and Jody’s Closet. She and Russ
enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel
to Alabama. She loved to garden
and most importantly spending time
with her friends and family. Darlene
was happiest when those she loved
were happy.
A memorial service to celebrate
Darlene’s life will be held at 1 p.m.
Friday, August 23, 2024, at West
Mendon Community Church, 22994
Portage Lake Road, Mendon, MI
49072, with a luncheon following
the service. A private interment
will be held at Fort Custer National
Cemetery.

Mathis, 74,
of Marshall,
Mich., died
peacefully
July 17, 2024,
with family at
her side. She
was born and
raised in Battle
Creek, where
she lived most of her life.
Although she never had children,
she was a second mother to her
nieces and nephews.Rita enjoyed crocheting and creat-
ing unique patterns. She also had
an eye for great photography. She
was such a kind and generous soul,
and will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death
by brothers Charles and Dwight
Mathis, and is survived by sisters
Mayme Mathis and Linda Devers.

A memorial celebration of life
will be held at Ketchum Pavilion in
