After a brief
illness, Henry
Harrison
Mayo Jr.,
76, of Battle
Creek, Mich.,
went to be
with his Lord
and Savior on
Friday, August
2, 2024.
Henry was
born May 31, 1948, to Henry and
Mary Mayo in Battle Creek, Mich.
He graduated from Harper Creek
High School in 1966. He was draft-
ed into the Army in 1968, serving a
tour in Vietnam.
Henry was formerly married to
Kathy Bradley and then later in life,
spent 20-plus years with his love,
Ruthie, until her death in 2020.
Henry retired from United Steel
& Wire Company and enjoyed his
retirement years with Ruth. He
and Ruth loved to bowl, and Henry
continued to bowl on a league after
her passing. Henry and Ruth both
enjoyed taking canoe trips with their
friends and co-workers, which made


for many memories and some great
stories. Henry was also a football
fan and loved his U of M and Lions
teams.
After Ruth’s passing, Henry gave
his life to Christ and became a part
of Woodland Church, where he was
loved dearly and he loved to serve
when the opportunity arose.
Henry was preceded in death by
his parents, Henry and Mary Mayo;
his brother, Ralph Mayo; and his
love, Ruth (Ruthie) Lynd.
He is survived by son Chuck
Mayo; granddaughter Alyssa (Travis)
Broughton; grandson Patrick Mayo;
two great-granddaughters, Emersyn
and Piper; and Ruth’s daughters,
Joylene and Christina, along with
several grandchildren.
Henry will be laid to rest at Fort
Custer National Cemetery on
Monday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m. There
will be a celebration of life and
dinner for Henry directly follow-
ing the ceremony at 4:15 p.m. at
the Woodland Church, Marshall
Campus, 15510 A Drive N.,
Marshall, MI 49068.

Lynn
Miller, 42, of
Sherwood,
passed away
Thursday,
August 8,
2024, at Henry
Ford Hospital
in Detroit, after
a long battle
with cancer.
In keeping with Lynn’s wishes, she
was cremated and a celebration of
life was held on Saturday, August
17, at 10 a.m. at Coldwater Church
of the Nazarene, 537 Sonet Lane,
Coldwater, MI 49036.
Lynn was born September 17,
1981, to Gene Fenton, in Battle
Creek, Michigan. She went to Union
City High School with the Class of
2000 and received her GED. She
also went on to complete some col-
lege courses in pursuit for a degree
in business. Lynn married Todd
Miller on September 3, 2022, at
their home in Sherwood.
Lynn loved driving semi-truck and
being out on the road. She made
many fond memories while working
for Darling Pro Ingredients. She was
a member of Moms of Multiples.
Lynn also loved taking her family up


North for outdoor experiences such
as camping, fishing and kayaking.
Her absolute favorite holiday was
Christmas and all the traditions that
came with it. In her spare time, she
had hobbies such as embroidery,
which she was very skilled at. Lynn
adored being a grandmother to her
three grandchildren. She was also a
proud member of the Church of the
Nazarene in Coldwater.
Lynn leaves behind her hus-
band Todd; her children, Elizabeth
Snow of Constantine, Carley Hart
of Coldwater, Jessica Fenton of
Coldwater, Summer Mathis of
Sherwood, and Dustin Mathis
of Sherwood; her parents, Gene
Fenton, Charlie Chatfield; her
siblings, David Chatfield, Cynthia
Chatfield, Brandy Chatfield and
Timothy Chatfield; and her grand-
children, Tucker Fenton, Rozalee
Fenton and Thaddea Snow.
She was preceded in death by her
grandfather Buddy Fenton.

Mary
Suzanne
“Suzie”
(Smith)
Schmitzer,
86, died
peacefully,
with her fam-
ily at her side,
on Sunday,
August 11,
2024, at Bronson Hospital in Battle
Creek, Michigan.
Suzie was born July 5, 1938, in
Marshall, Michigan, to Elsworth
“Al” and Mary Virginia (McDonald)
Smith. She grew up in Marshall and
was a 1956 graduate of Marshall
High School. She was employed at
the Battle Creek Federal Center in
her 20s and then dedicated her life
to raising her family.
Mary Suzanne Smith was united
in marriage to Raymond Edmond
Schmitzer on June 20, 1959, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall,
Michigan. They celebrated over 58
years of marriage prior to Ray’s
death on February 22, 2018.
Surviving are a son, Michael
James (Margie Kipp) Schmitzer
of Battle Creek; a daughter, Linda
Kay (Joseph) Tuttle of Atlanta, Ga.;
grandson Jacob “Jake” (Caroline
Zimmerman) Tuttle; granddaughter
Lauren Margaret Tuttle; and numer-
ous beloved nieces and nephews
and their families. Cherished, life-
long friends Lois Calderone and
Jeanette Flynn were by her side in
good times and in bad.
In addition to her husband, Ray,
Suzie was also preceded in death
by her parents and several other
relatives from the Schmitzer “clan.”
Suzie was a dedicated member

of St. Philip Catholic Parish, the
Women’s Service Organization and
active parish prayer group. She
enjoyed playing the organ at St.
Mary’s Catholic Parish and was
crowned May Queen as a teen-
ager, which brought her much joy
and happiness. The Our Lady of
Lourdes apparition and praying the
Rosary throughout her life helped
her feel very close to our Blessed
Mother Mary, the mother of God.
She prayed for children and fami-
lies needing the help of St. Jude’s
Hospital. She loved spending time
with her family, children, grandchil-
dren and extended family. Suzie
was deeply devoted to her Catholic
faith and her family. Many referred
to Suzie as a sweet, dear lady. She
will be remembered for her devo-
tion to God, to our Blessed Mother
Mary, and to her family.
Friends and family were received
4-6 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024,
at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral
Cremation Preneed Care, where
the Rosary was recited at 6 p.m.
Thursday. A service to celebrate
Suzie’s life was officiated by Rev.
James Richardson at Farley Estes
Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed
Care, 105 Capital Ave. N.E., Battle
Creek, MI 49017, at 11 a.m. Friday,
August 16, 2024. Committal and
interment followed at Memorial Park
Cemetery.
