announced 17 recipients of the KCC
Foundation’s Gold Key Scholarship,
- the college’s most prestigious
scholarship – adding up to $76,500 in
total student funding for the 2024-
academic year.
Gold Key Scholarships are awarded
to full-time freshmen to recognize
and encourage outstanding academic
and personal achievement, leadership
and community service, according to
a KCC press release.
Recipients are awarded $4,500 each
year for up to two academic years to
use toward tuition, fees and books.
Applicants for the Gold Key
Scholarships must be current high
school graduates entering KCC as
full-time students and have a cumula-
tive high school grade-point average
of 3.5 or higher.
They must also demonstrate lead-
ership experience, community and
service activity, and involvement in
school activities.
“Gold Key Scholars are chosen
through a thorough application and
interview process that showcases
exceptional academic performance
and leadership,” said Michelle
Williamson, executive director of the
KCC Foundation.
“These students create a close-knit
group that provides mutual support
and contributes important service to
both KCC and the community. We
are proud of their accomplishmentsKCC Foundation names 17 Gold Key Scholars
and look forward to seeing their con-
tinued success in their educational
pursuits,” Williamson added.
The Gold Key Scholars are:
Kimberly Abbeg of Quincy, a
Quincy High School graduate.
Abbeg, a 4-H member who dual-
enrolled at KCC and the Branch
Area Careers Center, plans to study
early childhood education.
Sarah Belote of Battle Creek, a
Calhoun Christian High School
graduate. Belote, who dual-enrolled
at KCC, will complete her associate
degree at KCC.
Britain Broderick of Battle Creek,
a West Michigan Virtual Academy
graduate. Broderick, who dual-
enrolled at KCC, plans to earn an
associate in science to pursue kine-
siology.
Emily Eversole of East Leroy, a
Harper Creek High School graduate.
Eversole, who dual-enrolled at KCC,
plans to study elementary education.
Emma Hawkins of Durand, a
Durand High School graduate.
Hawkins, who participated in 4-Hand Future Farmers of America,
will play soccer for KCC and plans
to study elementary education and
sports management.
Oliver (Zoe) Hood of Olivet, an
Olivet High School graduate. Hood,
who attended the Battle Creek Area
Math and Science Center, plans to
study computer programming.
Kathryn Koetje of Lake Odessa,
a Barry County Christian School
graduate. Koetje plans to complete
her associate degree at KCC.
Bailey Parker of Marshall,a
Marshall High School graduate.
Parker, who dual-enrolled at KCC,
plans to study nursing.
Ava Perez of Springfield, a
Marshall High School graduate.
Perez, who participated in Future
Farmers of America, plans to study
nursing.
Taylor Peters of Olivet, an Olivet
High School graduate. Peters, who
