First Salem Missionary Baptist
Church in Battle Creek will celebrate
its 6th Pastoral Anniversary in honor
of Pastor Leon Coleman III and his
family on Sept. 13 and 15.
“Six years ago, Elder Leon and his
wife, Elder Nicole, uprooted their
daughters, Layla and Nia, from the
only church family they’ve known,
answering the higher call of disciple-
ship to serve in the vineyard of Battle
Creek, which is a testament to this
year’s theme, ‘A Shepherd: Willing
and Eager to Serve God’s People’ – 1
Peter 5:1-4,” said spokesperson Betty
Moorehead.
First Salem Missionary Baptist
Church’s theme for this year is
“Declaring and Defending the Gospel
of Jesus Christ” through the preach-
ing and teaching of the word of God,
she added.
Organized in 1927, First Salem will
have two dedicated services of honor:
Friday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m., and
Sunday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m.
During the Friday night service,
people will be welcoming Bishop
Brehon Hall of Greater New Psalmist
Baptist Church of Toledo, Ohio.
Bishop James Williams of Spirit
and Truth Christian Ministries in
Detroit will speak at the Sunday
morning worship.
“First Salem is appreciative of the
work that the Coleman family contin-
ues to do in the church and the com-
munity and hopes that you will come
out and celebrate this blessed occa-
sion with us,” said Moorehead.
