The Battle Creek Lakeview var-
sity boys’ cross country team ran
to a runner-up finish at its annual
Lakeview Invitational Saturday,
Sept. 7.
Senior Jonah Bills led the
Lakeview team with a tenth-place
time of 16 minutes 40.79 seconds.
There were three guys who hit
the finish line in less than 16 min-
utes including Harper Creek senior
Dominic Lowrie who was leading a
Harper Creek ‘B’ team on the day.
He hit the finish line in 15:29.38.
Parma Western junior Edison
Lopeman was the runner-up in
15:45.11 and Portage Central senior
Spencer Parker third in 15:54.11.
Parker’s Portage Central team
took the championship in the boys’
large school division at the invita-
tional with 30 points. The top five
Mustangs all placed among the first
nine finishers.
Lakeview was second with 81
points ahead of Parma Western
105, Portage Northern 111, Gull
Lake 126, Mattawan 130, Harper
Creek ‘B’ 141, St. Joseph 149 and
Stevensville Lakeshore 295.
Lakeview had freshman Karson
Lewis 13th in 16:51.84, senior Alex
Rogers 15th in 16:57.99, freshman
Eli Demlow 18th in 17:10.65 and
sophomore Carter Hughes 25th in
17:35.82.
The Harper Creek team had junior
Cooper Gardner 17th in 16:59.81,
and the senior trio of Jordan
Lindauer (38th in 18:42.06), Owen
Hunter (42nd, 18:54.10) and Ryce
Ferrell (43rd, 18:56.67) rounded out
the top five.
Battle Creek Central had senior
Ja’Tavion Caldwell place 58th in
20:58.97 and sophomores Charles
Sims and Carter Jefferies placed
59th and 65th respectively for the
Bearcats. Teams need at least five
runners to earn a team score though.
The large school girls’ race
was won by Portage Central with
40 points ahead of Stevensville
Lakeshore 121, St. Joseph 131,
Portage Central ‘B’ 132, Gull
Lake 138, Portage Northern 147,

St. Joseph senior Elena Figueroa

won the girls’ race in 18:32.75. She

was one of four girls to hit the finish

line in less than 19 minutes.

The Harper Creek ‘B’ squad was

paced by junior Julia Faber who came

in eighth at 19:52.83. Lakeview was

led by junior Lilamae Frank who was

13th overall in 20:26.11.

The front pack for the Spartan

women also included senior Evelyn

Calow 23rd in 21:12.33, sophomore

Amelia Kraemer 32nd in 21:37.53,

freshman Olivia Sowton 40th in

22:10.81 and sophomore Olivia King

41st in 22:15.12.

Harper Creek sophomore Layla

Silkworth and freshman Rylee Zumer

came across together. Silkworth was

30th in 21:33.29 and Zumer 31st in

21:36.19.

The Beaver team’s top five also

included sophomore Elizabeth Antes

55th in 23:01.55 and junior Ellie

Feneley 57th in 23:18.29.

Battle Creek Central had seniors

Olivia Johnson and Allie Cook place

70th and 71st respectively.

The day’s small school races saw

the Jackson Lumen Christi boys and

girls win team titles.
