Galesburg-Augusta recorded its first
win of the 2024 season and the first
varsity win on New Maskill Field
with a 51 to 6 rout of the Rangers
from Cassopolis on Sept. 6.
The Rams scored on all four of
its possessions in the first quarter,
according to a recent press release.
Jonah Ranes scored on runs of 9
and 7 yards, and Nolan Brewer had
touchdown runs of 46 and 3 yards.
Brewer’s second score was set up
when Jeremiah Mann intercepted a
Ranger pass and returned it to the
Ranger 3 yard line.
Owen Pfeiffer added 3 extra point
kicks and Justin Martin converted
a 2-point conversion run giving the
Rams a 29-0 lead at the end of the
quarter.
Martin scored on the first play of
the second period on an 11-yard run,
and Brewer passed to C.J. Denard for
the conversion points.
Brewer got his third touchdown of
the game on a 10-yard run.
Pfeiffer added a pat kick. He fin-
ished the game going 5 for 5, and the
Rams headed into the locker room
with a 44-0 lead.
Cassopolis started the third quarter
with possession at their own 33-yard
line.
Three plays later, they were forced
to punt and G-A took over at their
own 24-yard line.
Eleven plays later, C.J. Denard
would score on a 10-yard run to close
out the quarter and the scoring for the
Rams.
In the closing minutes of the game,
the Rangers would get their only
score of the game.
Lucas Williams connected with
Cameron Stewart on a 45-yard pass,
giving Cassopolis a first down at the
Rams 8-yard line.
Williams then sprinted around left
end untouched for the score. Ranes
and Mann blocked the pat kick and
the game ended.
The G-A ground attack accounted
for 333 yards.
Martin led the attack with 98 yards,
all in the first half. Denard collected
74 yards and Brewer had 73. Levi
Born picked up 46 yards, and Ranes
had 39.
Brewer had a perfect night passing,
hitting on all five of his attempts for
95 yards.
Martin had one catch for 38 yards;
Born caught one for 33 yards; Mann
had two catches for 21 yards; and
Denard caught one pass for the
2-point conversion.
The defense put up a stellar perfor-
mance, as they held the Rangers 46
yards rushing and 45 passing; 53 of
the 91 total yards came on the final
two plays of the game.
Leading tacklers for G-A were
Ranes with 10, Dominic Corsi with
eight and Anakin Jordan with seven.
