It was hot out Friday night and

the Harper Creek Beaver grid squad

was on fire in their 35-14 defeat

of the Coldwater Cardinals, giving

the homecoming crowd a show to

remember.

But, it didn’t happen before the

district went all out to celebrate

with an afternoon carnival orga-

nized by Michelle Barnes, followed

by a lengthy parade of everything

from the junior football teams to the

public safety vehicles of Emmett

Township.

After delivering the top 10 queen

and king candidates to the stadium

gates via Corvette convertibles,

the parade crowd witnessed the

announcement and crownings of

2024 queen Mylah Beach and king

Brenden VanSyckle.

“This is a lot,” said Beach wearing

her freshly delivered crown. “I was

not even expecting to be top 10. I’m

so blessed and grateful. I honestly

hadn’t thought about it until this

school year.”

The top 10 queen and king candi-

dates were chosen by fellow seniors

and staff, she explained.

“And then, the whole school voted

on who they thought should win,”

she said.

She is the daughter of Theresa and

Mark Beach.

VanSyckle is a member of the var-

sity football team where he is both

an offensive and defensive lineman.
