Many hands made light work last
week for Battle Creek Habitat for
Humanity as it works to build new
homes on Woodlawn Avenue in
Urbandale.
The organization broke ground
for six more houses on the site last
Spring next to the first home already
complete there.
The newest home to go up was the
subject of last week’s Women Build
in which businesses contribute by
making donations and by sending
staff members to provide some hands
on support.
About five employees of Allegiant
Wealth Strategies worked along-
side Robert Spencer at the site
Wednesday, said Sarah Herwick.
“It’s a great cause,” said Herwick.
“New skills today but they’re very

“It’s just a pleasure to have such
people with kind hearts and great
attitudes helping to bless somebody’s
future,” said King of the volunteers.
Though the event is typically held
nationwide in Spring, some public
funding delayed this year’s event in
Battle Creek, said Executive Director
Mike King.
Battle Creek Women Build started
Sept. 17 with Advia Credit Union
turning out to help work on the
home, followed by Allegiant Wealth
Strategies on Wednesday, Sept. 18,
Marshall Community and Kellogg
Community credit unions worked
on Thursday and Dunan Aviation
worked on Friday.
“We will be working the whole
week, doing siding, roofing and a bit
of interior work,” said King prior to
the kickoff last week. “Wednesday
the 18th we (also had) a group of
Eaton volunteers building a wheel-
chair ramp.”
Also helping to build the house
on Friday was Knauf Insulation
