The Battle Creek Public Schools
Education Foundation (BCPSEF) is
inviting the community to support
the 8th Annual Bearcat Tailgate on
Friday, Sept. 27.
The BCPSEF event will be held
from 5-7 p.m. at Battle Creek Central
High School, 100 W. Van Buren
St., on the lawn at the corner of
Champion, Calhoun and West Streets,
said spokesperson Lynn Ward Gray.
The tailgate will take place just
before the Battle Creek Central
homecoming game against
Kalamazoo’s Loy Norrix High
School.
There is no fee to attend, but
RSVPs are appreciated; people can
RSVP and get free tickets at ticket-
source.us/bcpsef.
“If attending, feel free to bring a
lawn chair. The rain location is The
Commons at Battle Creek Central,”
said Ward Gray.
The festive fundraiser will feature

tailgate food favorites, a DJ, Hustle
dance instruction by Crystal Hall,
games and door prizes.
“We will also acknowledge and
show gratitude for our amazing
donors, including our parade marshal,
past BCPSEF board president and
Bearcat alumni [from the] class of
1978, David Lucas,” said Ward Gray.
Since 2017, the Bearcat Tailgate
has raised more than $76,000 and
helped 15 scholarship and grant funds
reach or maintain their awarding level
to support Bearcat students, graduates
and staff, she explained.
The BCPSEF an affiliate fund
of the Battle Creek Community
Foundation.
Donations are being accepted online
at battlecreekpublicschools.org/

MDOT to resurface M-

in southern Barry Co.

The Michigan Department of
Transportation is investing approxi-
mately $1.4 million to resurface more
than 5 miles of M-37 from Groat
Road to the Barry-Calhoun county
line.
The resurfacing work started Sept.
23 and is estimated to end in mid-
November.
Lane closures will be in effect

throughout the project.
Based on economic modeling, this
investment is expected to directly and
indirectly support 17 jobs, according
to the MDOT.
In addition, the project will improve
the ride quality and extend the service
life of the roadway, the department
noted.
