Alzheimer's is one of the most
expensive diseases, with a lifetime
cost of care of more than $392,000,
according to the Alzheimer's
Association Disease Facts and
Figures.
Additionally, nearly 7 million
Americans live with the disease
today, and more than 11 million
family members and friends serve as
Alzheimer's caregivers.Since launch-
ing an alliance with the Alzheimer's
Association in 2016, Edward Jones
has committed to contributing $50
million over a 10-year period. This
is the largest ever pledged by a cor-
porate sponsor to the Alzheimer's
Association. The funds will help
enhance access to care and sup-
port programs, expand education
materials for Edward Jones clients
and associates, and advance critical
Alzheimer's research. To learn more
about the Alzheimer's disease, the
work of the Alzheimer's Association

tively raised more than $45 million as
of December 2023 and engaged more
than 115,000 walkers.
"Supporting the Alzheimer's
Association to find a cure for this
terrible disease is something we are
passionate about at Edward Jones,"
said local Financial Advisor, Sarah
LaFountain. "In our work and our
personal lives, we have witnessed
not only the physical toll this takes
on families but also the financial
drain. That's why we partner with
the Alzheimer's Association, both at
a national level and here in Battle
Creek and the surrounding areas.
"The Calhoun County walk will take
place on Sunday, October 6th at
Squirrel Hollow Golf Course (12111
Helmer Road S). Check-in begins at
9:00AM and the Walk begins at 10
a.m.
“We'd love for folks to pre-reg-
ister online,” said financial advi-
sor, Sarah LaFountai, “at https://
act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2024/
MI-MichiganGreatLakes?pg=entry&fr_
id=17698. However they can register
day of onsite.”
Fundraising can be at an individual
level or team.
“The website pro-
vides easy ways to do either,” said
LaFountain.
Walkers can also contact the Walk
Director, Katey Carrier, at 214-425-
9797 or [email protected] with any
additional fundraising questions.
“The walk is roughly one mile in
length and we'll be getting our steps
in at the beautiful Squirrel Hollow
Golf Course,” said LaFountain.
“Other attractions will include a
promise garden, pet table, local ven-
dor/sponsors, food/drinks, music and
Russell from the BC Battle Jacks will
be making a guest appearance to wel-
come our walkers.”
As Michiganders move into the
fall season, the Calhoun County
Public Health Department (CCPHD)
is offering immunizations to pro-
tect against three serious viruses
that pose a risk to health this time
of year: influenza, COVID-19 and
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
The CCPHD began offering
appointments Sept. 23 for COVID-
19 and flu vaccines, according to
Calhoun Health Dept. offering flu, COVID and RSV shots
spokesperson Victor Jovanovich.
The flu vaccine is recommended
for everyone aged 6 months and
older.
This vaccine helps protect against
the most common strains of the
influenza virus expected this season.
The COVID-19: Everyone 6
months and older is recommended to
receive an updated 2024-25.
RSV Immunization: For infants up
to 8 months and for some children
aged 8-19 months at higher risk for
severe RSV disease entering their
second RSV season is available start-
ing Oct. 1.
People should check with the
health department to determine eli-
gibility.
CCPHD encourages residents to
talk with their doctor about getting
an RSV vaccine if they are in their
32nd-36th week of pregnancy or
aged 60 years or older.
“With flu season upon us and
COVID-19 and RSV expected to
increase, the best way to protect
yourself and those you care about
from school/work absences, severe
disease, hospitalization and death
is to get immunized. The CCPHD
has immunizations available at its
offices in Albion (115 Market Place)
and Battle Creek (190 E. Michigan
Ave.),” said Jovanovich.
