Judith
Anne Lafler,
82, went
home to be
with her Lord
and Savior
Saturday,
Sept. 7, 2024.
She was
a resident
at Calhoun
County Medical Care Facility.
She was born Sept. 20, 1941, in
Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter
of George and Mable (Rogers)
Thomas. Mable passed as a result
of childbirth, and George was
drafted into WWII. Judy was raised
by her maternal grandparents,
Clyde H. and Ada C. (Brandenburg)
Rogers.
Judy graduated from Battle Creek
Central High School in 1959. On
June 12, 1959, she married the
love of her life, Norman Lee Lafler.
They enjoyed 54 years of marriage
before the Lord called Norm home
in May 2013.
Judy enjoyed cooking and baking,
reading books, visiting with friends,
and serving alongside her hus-
band at the Share Center, dubbed
“Norm & Judy’s Supper.” What she
cherished most was spending time
with her kids and grandkids. She
also treasured family dinners and
making cookies with the grandkids
in her kitchen. Another favorite was
spending time at the family cabin
in Harrison, Mich. Many pans of
Judy’s fresh cinnamon rolls were
shared by those she loved around
the dining room table at the cabin.
She had the gift of warm hospitality
and welcomed all who visited.
Norm and Judy owned and operated
Pope Washer Repair in Battle Creek
from 1967 to 1995. They later owned
and operated The Date Bar Coffee Shop,
The Oak and Lace Shoppe and Lafler
Trucking for many years. Before retir-
ing, Judy worked for Larmour Drug and
McDonald’s on Columbia Ave.
Judy was a member of Victory
Life Church, where she enjoyed
participating in small groups and
women’s ministry events.
Judy is survived by her son, David
(Judy) Lafler of Portage, Mich.; her
daughter, Liane (Jeff) McNeil of
Battle Creek, Mich.; grandchildren
Lynsey (Justin) Grimes, Zachariah
(Rachel) Lafler, Derric (Jill) Riegel,
Heather Uhrie, Ryan (Joe) Lebeuf,
Kodi (Jeff) Southwell, Shelby
(Cameron) Schuemann, Austin
(Rylee) Schuemann, Lindsey (Joel)
Meersman and Logan (Rachel)
McNeil. She was blessed with 18
great-grandchildren and one great-
great-grandchild, and niece Sandi
(Joe) Miller.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and grandparents; her
husband, Norman; her brother-in-
law and sister-in-law William (Doris)
Loew; and nephews Daniel R. Loew
Sr. and William A. Loew Jr.
Visitation will be held at Baxter
Funeral & Cremation Service, 375
W. Dickman Road, on Tuesday, Oct.
15, 2024, from 4-6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held
at Baxter Funeral & Cremation
Service on Wednesday, Oct. 16,
2024, at 11 a.m., with Pastor
Matthew Slocum of Victory Life
Church officiating.
Interment will take place in
Bedford Cemetery.
Memorial tributes may be made

(Morgan)
Anderson,
95, of Leroy
Township, died
peacefully at
home with her
family at her
side.
Marilyn was
born Aug. 22, 1929, in Battle Creek
to Edwin and Margaret (Mack)
Morgan. She was a lifelong resi-
dent of Battle Creek and attended
Lakeview High School.
Marilyn was united in marriage to
Carl E. Anderson on Aug. 22, 1947.
They were married for 71 years until
Carl preceded her in death on April
5, 2018.
Surviving are five daughters,
Sharon (Roger) Inman and Diana
(Dennis) Inman, both of Marshall,
Mich., Nancy Anderson of East
Leroy, Mich., Margaret (Phil Hart)
Anderson of Climax, Mich., and
Annette (Craig) Bradley of Augusta,
Mich.; four sons, Carl E. (Melissa)
Anderson of Dowling, Mich.,
Eugene (Lynda) Anderson of Battle
Creek, Robert Anderson of Marshall
and Eric (Darcie) Anderson of
Battle Creek; and a combination of
grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren that
exceeds 50; and numerous nieces,
nephews, cousins and their families.
In addition to her husband,
Marilyn was also preceded in death
by her parents; two sisters, M.
Louise Shields, Patricia Little; and a
brother, William “Ed” Morgan.
Marilyn was a firm believer in her
faith and a member of the Marshall
Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She was a former secretary of
Adventist Community Services
for the State of Michigan. Marilyn
was active in Pathfinders, teaching
Sabbath School, Vespers and going
on camporees with all of her chil-
dren and grandchildren. She loved
nature, the outdoors and would
always help an animal in need. She
raised the orphaned animals, took
them to schools and nursing homes
to teach others how to care for
them and then released the animals
back to nature. Throughout her life,
Marilyn was an active volunteer at
her church and in her community.
One of her favorite ways to serve
others was visiting at many local
nursing homes. Marilyn was a true
homemaker, sewing, canning, veg-
etables from her garden and caring
for her family were skills that she
passed on to all of her children.
Marilyn will be remembered for lov-
ing God and her family.
Friends were received 5-8 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at Farley
Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation
Preneed Care, where a service
to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be
held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct.
10, 2024. The service will be live-
streamed and may be viewed at:

Committal and interment will follow
at Fort Custer National Cemetery at
1 p.m.
