thepositiveopportunityit

presentsuswithis uniqueand

somethingthephotographic

communitymustbeinvolvedwith.

It is inconceivablehowanythingelse

couldmakethe(human)worldstopso

abruptlyat preciselythesametime

andaffordusallanopportunityto

rethinktogetherhowwewanttodo

thingsin thefuture.

Asphotographers,thepictureswe

makehaveneverbeensorelevantor

importanttothedebateonthepathwe

mightfollowfromhereon.

Whetheryouareintostreet,landscape,

portraitureordocumentarythereis a

roletoplay.Thephotosthatwemakeare

ourwayof communicatinghowwefeel

aboutwhatis happeningandwhatwe

wanttosayaboutit.

If thedefinitionof insanityis doingthe

samethingoverandoverwhilsthoping

fora differentoutcome,canwereally

carryonaswedidbeforeandhope for a

differentora betterfuture?

Makingsenseofthecrisis

Inthissensetheroleof theartsis goingto

bekeyforhowwemakesenseof this

crisisandtheworldthatwillemergefrom

it. Ourtaskasphotographersis to

contributetothisdebatewithourimages.

Soplease;useyourskillsandremain

engagedwithdoingwhatyouloveduring

thisverydifficulttimebecauseit matters

nowasmuchasit everhasin thepast.

Documentingourlives,howweare

forcedtodothingsnowandhowwefeel

aboutourisolationfromoneanother

andthespacesweusuallyenjoywillbe

animportanttestimonytowhatwe’re

livingthrough.

Ourstreetslieemptyandourpublic

spaces,frompubstolibrariestoparks,are

closedandwearelivingmostlyinside,

schoolingourchildrenandhavingtokeep

outside.Withinthisnewwayof lifeliethe

storiestobetoldbythestreetandsocial

documentary photographers amongst us.

Meanwhile,themotorwaysareempty

andthevapourtrailsmissingovereven

thebusiestflightpaths,makingtheairwe

breathecleanerthanbefore.Naturehas

alreadyreturnedtoplacesthatwere,

otherwise,toopollutedtosupportit.

Rethinkingourapproachtoplanet

Earthanditsfinitesizeandresourceswill

alsobepartof thevisualmessagethat

weofferourviewers,fromfriendsand

familytopoliticians.

Wewillneedthesestoriesandideasto

beexploredsothattheyare‘onthetable’

whenthetimecomestoreflectonwhat

hashappened.Theywillhelpusthink

abouthowwecanmakepositivemovesto

continuethistrendtowardsa better

environmentoncewerestartourlives

oncemore.

Withourimagesaskingthequestions

andtellingthestoryof whatis happening,

let’shopethatthenewnormalis a better

onethanwehadbeforeCovid-19,and

that we all played our part in creating it.
