Capital City

Administratively, Hungary is divided into 19 counties with the capital city of
Budapest being independent of any county government.


Currency

Hungary, unlike many other EU countries, has not yet adopted the Euro as its
currency. Therefore, during your holiday in the Hungarian capital, you will need
to pay in the local currency, which is the Hungarian Forint. The currency is
indicated in exchange offices by the abbreviation HUF.


Language

Hungarian is the only official language of the country and is spoken by 98.9% of
the population. It is not related to neighbouring languages.


Religion

Hungary has a religiously diverse population, with a significant portion
identifying as non-religious and about 42% as Christian.


Location and size

Hungary is a landlocked country in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe, with
an area of 93,030 sq km, extending 268 km N–S and 528 km E–W. It is
bounded on the N by Slovakia, on the NE by Ukraine, on the E by Romania, on
the S by Serbia Montenegro and Croatia, on the SW by Slovenia, and on the W
by Austria, with a total boundary length of 2,171 km. Hungary's capital city,
Budapest, is located in the north-central part of the country.
