On Feb.1, 732, the New Year’s Day, Hsi envoys congratulated at the
T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5028). Later in the same year, envoys
from the Hsi chief Li Shih and others were received at the T’ang
court. Hsüan-tsung entitled Li Shih King Who has Attached Himself
to Righteousness, Military Governor of the imaginary Kuei-yi Area
Command (Area Command Attached to Righteousness), General-in-
chief of the Feathered Forest of the Left, and Specially Advanced, and
presented him with 100,000 objects (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:9a). There
followed a period of hostility from 736 to 740.
On Apr.20, 745, Hsüan-tsung enfeoffed his sister’s daughter, the
Lady Yang, as Princess of Yi-fang, and married her to the Hsi king,
Li Yen-ch’ung (Tzu-chih t’ung-chien p.6864).
The marriage was brief. In the 9th month (October) of 745, Li
Yen-ch’ung killed the princess and began hostilities against the T’ang.
He was defeated by An Lu-shan (Chiu T’ang shu 9:7a; Tzu-chih t’ung-
chien p.6868).
On Apr.26, 746, Hsüan-tsung entitled the Hsi king, So-ku, King
Who Displays Sincerity and appointed him Military Governor of the
non-existant Jao-lo Area Command (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:9a; Tzu-chih
t’ung-chien p.6871).
On Jan.23, 749, the New Year’s Day, Hsi envoys congratulated at
the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5030).
In the 1st month (Jan./Feb.) of 760, 12 men sent by the Hsi king,
Chu-lo, were received at the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5031).
This was presumably on the New Year’s Day of Jan.23.
In the 8th month (Sep./Oct.) of 762, the Hsi offered gifts (Ts’e-fu
yüan-kuei p.5031).
In the 11th month (Dec./Jan., 772) of the Chinese year 771, Hsi
envoys were received at the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5031).
In the autumn of 772, Hsi envoys offered gifts. In the 12th month
(Dec./Jan., 773) of the same Chinese year 772, envoys again offered
presents (Chiu T’ang shu 11:20b; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5031).
In the 12th month (January 774) of the Chinese year 773, in the
12th month (January, 775) of the Chinese year 774, and in the 12th
month (Dec./Jan., 776) of the Chinese year 775, Hsi envoys offered
gifts (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 4th month (May/June) of 777, Hsi envoys offered regional
objects (Chiu T’ang shu 11:26a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 12th month (January, 778) of the Chinese year 777, Hsi
envoys offered regional objects (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
