In the 2nd month (Mar./Apr.) of 807, Po-hai envoys offered gifts
(Chiu T’ang shu 14:13a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 1st month (Jan./Feb.) of 809, it became known at the T’ang
court that the king of Po-hai, Ta Sung-lin, had died and that his son
Yüan-yü had been enthroned. Hsien-tsung appointed Yüan-yü as Impe-
rial Household Grandee of the Silver Seal and Blue Ribbon, Inspector
of the Imperial Library, and Military Governor of the non-existant
Hu-han Area Command, and recognized him as king of the Po-hai
State (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a; Tzu-chih t’ung-chien p.7656; Wen-hsien
t’ung-k’ao 326:58a).^19
In the 1st month (Feb./Mar.) of 810, Po-hai envoys were received at
the T’ang court (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 11th month (December) of 810, a son of the king of Po-hai
presented regional objects (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a; Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei
p.5032).
In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 813) of the Chinese year 812, Po-
hai envoys were received at the T’ang court (Chiu T’ang shu 199B:13a;
T’ang hui-yao 196:12a).
When Ta Yüan-yü died [in 812], he was succeeded by his younger
brother Yen-yi. On Feb.20, 813, Hsien-tsung appointed him as Impe-
rial Household Grandee of the Silver Seal and Blue Ribbon, Acting
Inspector of the Imperial Library, and Military Governor [of the
non-existant Hu-han Area Command], and recognized him as king
of the Po-hai State. A Palace Assistant was sent to him as an envoy
(Chiu T’ang shu 15:3a; 199B:13a).
In the 12th month (Dec./Jan., 814) of the Chinese year 813, a royal
son from Po-hai was received at the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei
p.5032).
In the 1st month (Jan./Feb.) of 814, a Po-hai mission of 37 men
presented two images of the Buddha, one of gold and one of silver
(Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 11th month (Dec./Jan., 815) of the Chinese year 814, Po-hai
envoys presented falcons (Ts’e-fu yüan-kuei p.5032).
In the 12th month (Jan./Feb., 815) of the Chinese year 814, a
Po-hai mission of 59 men was received at the T’ang court (Ts’e-fu
yüan-kuei p.5033).
In the 7th month (Aug./Sep.) of 815, a Po-hai mission of 101 men,
