On May 6, 1039, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the birthday of Jen-tsung^130 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.1112).
On Feb.10, 1040, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court to con-
gratulate on the New Year’s Day of Feb.15 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien
ch’ang-pienp.1130).
On Feb.15, 1040, the New Year’s Day, two Sung envoys congratu-
lated at the Liao court (Liao shih 18:9a).
On the same New Year’s Day of Feb.15, 1040, the reception at
the Sung court was cancelled because of an eclipse of the sun. The
Liao envoys were provided with drink and food at their lodge but not
received (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1135).
On May 24, 1040, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager, who
had been rehabilitated and been recalled in 1039, and envoys from
Hsing-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the birthday
of Jen-tsung^131 (Sung shih 10:14b; Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien
p.1150).
On Aug.30, 1040, a Sung envoy to the Liao court announced that
Sung was at war with Hsia (Liao shih 18:8b; 115:18a).
In the 11th month (Dec./Jan., 1041) of the Liao year 1040, two
Sung envoys arrived at the Liao court to congratulate on the birthday
of Hsing-tsung^132 (Liao shih 18:9b).
On Jan.13, 1041, Liao envoys arrived at the Sung court on a good-
will mission (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1171).
On Jan.30, 1041, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and from
Hsing-tsung arrived at the Sung court to congratulate on the New
Year’s Day of Feb.4 (Hsü Tzu-chih t’ung-chien ch’ang-pien p.1176).
On Feb.4, 1041, the New Year’s Day, four Sung envoys congratu-
lated at the Liao court (Liao shih 19:1a).
On Feb.17, 1041, two Sung envoys arrived at the Liao court to
congratulate on the birthday of the Empress Dowager (Liao shih 19:
1a).
On May 13, 1041, envoys from the Liao Empress Dowager and
from Hsing-tsung arrived at the the Sung court to congratulate on the
