Fighting in both Kata and Kumite,
athletes were chasing the
win, with fair play and strong
will. For all of them, it was an
unforgettable summer sporting
experience, bringing them great
memories and new records.


The University Sports Hall
offered the tatami where the
competitions were held. The
competition days included
matches in Kata and Kumite, both
disciplines including a great level
of concentration and thoughtful


moves and kicks towards the
opponents and in the air.

The athletes were chasing
the win, with fair play and
determination. The hard work,
concentration, strategy and
competitive spirit have brought
medals to the ones who gave
their best. For the others, nothing
is lost, there are the future games
and championships that offer
another chance to win a place on
the podium.

Out of all universities that
participated in the Karate
competition, the first three
positions of the final ranking were
taken by: Istanbul Aydin University
(TUR) on the first position,
Azerbaijan Sport Academy (AZE)
in the second place and Eotvos
Lorand University (HUN) in the
third place.

In the Kata discipline the
champions in the men’s
competition were the athletes
representing Istanbul Aydin

University (TUR), while Gazi
University (TUR) lifted the second
place trophy. The bronze medals
went on the necks of the athletes
from Polytechnic University of
Bucharest (ROU).

In the women’s Kata competition,
the champion was the team
representing University of Porto
(POR). In second place was
University of Nottingham (GBR),
while the athletes of Eotvos
Lorand University (HUN) took
home the bronze medals.

Karate was the second-largest Combat Sports (of four)


at the European Universities Games in Miskolc, Hungary


(July 15-18), with 331 participants from 121 universities


and 24 countries.
