Taekwondo is a dynamic martial
art, which involves acrobatic kicks
and graceful punches. It aptly
means “the way of the foot and
fist,” corresponding to the blows
and kicks that score points.
During the European Universities
Games, in this dynamic combat
discipline, 120 male and 109
female student-athletes competed
in many different weight categories
and styles, all of them eager to win
the title of European Universities
champion.
Taekwondo again proved suc-
cessful at the European Universi-
ties Games this year, following its
debut in 2016 in Zagreb and Rijeka.
With 391 participants, Taekwondo
represented the biggest sport out
of the 4 combat sports present at
the programme, according to the
number of participants.
Sixty universities were represented
in the Taekwondo competition,
coming from all over Europe.
They all competed to the same
high standard, with fair play and
great will to win the title. They
were competing in different
weight and style categories, from
which the collective points from
all represented universities were
collated to produce the winners of
the mixed team competitions.
Out of all the universities that
participated in the Taekwondo
competition in Miskolc, the final
ranking for the mixed team saw
University of Zagreb (CRO) on
the first place, followed by Gazi
University (TUR) on the second
place and the Autonomous
University of Barcelona (ESP) on
the third position.
At the European Universities
Games in Debrecen – Miskolc, the
competition in Taekwondo welcomed
391 participants, representing 119
universities from 19 countries.
