Capital Cities
San José is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. The capital city in Nicaragua is
Managua, and Tegucigalpa is the capital of Honduras. Guatemala City is the capital
and largest city of Guatemala. The most populous urban area in Central America,
while surprisingly Belmopan is the capital city of Belize after its original capital,
Belize City, was ravaged by a hurricane in 1961. Belize City, however, remains the
country's commercial and cultural centre as well as its most populous city.
Language
Spanish is the most spoken language in Central America and the most spoken
language of each country except for Belize, where English is the national language.
Various Mayan languages are also spoken, especially in Guatemala and Honduras.
Many people also speak Creoles in Belize and Nicaragua. Garifuna is another
popular language in Honduras and surrounding areas.
Religion
Latin America remains overwhelmingly Christian.
