About 30 photographers met on Sunday 1st June 2025 (32 if you count the Wakaiki kids), assembling at the
National Stadium BTS station for a second consecutive month. We were very pleasantly surprised to see so many,
given that we decided to change the planned walk at the last minute. The original intention was to photograph
a neighbourhood near Rama VIII Bridge, but we decided to postpone that route to July after we were contacted
by some of our regular walkers. They said that they were reluctantly having to decide between photographing
the Bangkok Pride parade or joining the BPG walk since both were happening around the same time. After
discussing it among the admin team, we decided to embrace this seemingly perfect opportunity and made the
parade the focus on the June walk.
This was a very different type of walk for the Bangkok Photographers. For one thing, there wasn’t really a
route to follow, other than the path of the parade that went down Sukhumvit Road from National Stadium to
centralwOrld. Unlike most BPG walks, the neighbourhood wasn’t the star of the show and the main styles you’ll
see on the following pages are portraiture and events photography, though you could easily argue that the are
still sub-genres of street photography.
The parade reportedly consisted of over 300,000 people this year, making it the largest Pride parade in
Asia and one of the largest globally. The participants had a lot to celebrate after the legalisation of same-sex
marriage in Thailand on 23rd January 2025. Coupled with the general joy and exuberance of this day of self-
expression, it created a fantastic festive atmosphere, as did the marching bands and the enthusiastic crowd.
The big crowds, the irregular movement of the parade and the different interests and approaches of
the BPG members meant that our group rapidly dispersed. As a result, we only have a single spread of
Photographs of the Photographers on page 112, not the usual three spreads. There are also no pull-out
spreads since, while some of the colourful and creative outfits were photographed more than once, the sheer
variety of subjects meant that there were not enough similar but subtly different shots to make a full spread.
We received submissions from 27 of the 30 photographers who joined the walk - an amazing 90 per cent
submission rate! We are immensely proud of the outstanding talent of the Bangkok Photographers on display
and hope that you enjoy this uniquely colourful copy of Bangkok Photo Walks.
Have fun,
Mark, Chutima, and Ben.
