circle' settlements of enclosed and open type, with associated field enclosure systems,
survive in considerable numbers. Enclosed forms can now be seen to originate within
the PRIA and have timber precursors, whilst the possible bronze age date of un-
enclosed, upland huts and enclosures has been cast into doubt as a result of work at
Crawcwellt West (Mer.) (see p. 687). In addition other types of settlement have been
recognized: two large timber round-houses and four-posters within Henge A at
Llandegai (Caerns.) (Houlder 1967) may be an abberation, but at Bryn Eryr (Ang.)
(Longley 1988) a timber round-house was transformed into a rectangular, embanked
