THE DRESSES
1 RENÉE ZELLWEGER
“It was fitted to perfection by
three tailors over the course
of nearly a dozen fittings on
two continents — it’s timeless
and elegant,” says stylist
Petra Flannery of the Judy
best actress winner’s crystal-
embroidered Armani Privé
gown with David Webb jewels.
2 GAL GADOT
The presenter topped
Givenchy Haute Couture
with a 76-carat
diamond Tiffany
& Co. necklace
(valued at more
than $2 million).
“Gal fell in love
with this look
instantly. It’s
an incredible
confection with
soft pink and black
lace combined with
a sculptural couture
shape,” says Gadot’s stylist,
Elizabeth Stewart. “The
Tiffany’s necklace made it very
rocker princess.”
3 PENÉLOPE CRUZ
The presenter wore a custom
bustier dress inspired by
Chanel’s Spring-Summer 1995
Haute Couture collection
featuring the fashion house’s
signature camellia and pearls.
4 JANELLE MONÁE
“We were inspired by
afrofuturism and the idea of
Janelle being a queen floating
down from an intergalactic
diamond planet, as well as
Prince and his incredible blue
sparkle Oscar moment,” says
Monáe’s stylist, Alexandra
Mandelkorn, of the star’s
Ralph Lauren Collection
crystal-lacquered silk lamé
hooded evening dress, which
required 600 hours to hand-
embroider with more than
168,000 Swarovski crystals.
Final touch? Sustainable
and ethically sourced
Forevermark diamonds.
5 BRIE LARSON
The presenter dazzled in a
Celine by Hedi Slimane gown
featuring more than 120,000
sequins, 110,000 glass beads,
13,000 Swarovski crystals
and 6,500 pink strass jewels,
which required about 1,200
hours of hand embroidery.
Bulgari diamonds added even
more sparkle.
6 CHARLIZE THERON
“We wanted to finish out
the promotional tour
for Bombshell in black. I
loved how the peplum was
reminiscent of a classic
Dior jacket,” says Theron’s
stylist, Leslie Fremar, of the
nominee’s sculpted Dior
Haute Couture silk dress
with a $5 million Tiffany
& Co. necklace featuring
165 diamonds.
