US regulators in Washington have approved the rollout of 5,000 low-speed
on-road vehicles that have no human controls and only contain space for goods.
The Nuro R2 vehicles are half the width of a regular car and can travel at a top
speed of 40km/h to deliver pizza, groceries and other cargo. The company hopes
the first fully autonomous vehicle will save Americans the time they usually
spend on errands.

The creators of the popular musical
lesson app 3D Piano have developed new
AR pianist software that uses a
smartphone camera to display a virtual
pianist playing on any existing piano.
The software uses integrated depth
perception capabilities that can be found
in the latest smartphones to analyse the
piano and then the animated tutor will
show you how to move in order to play
a piece.

There’s a social element to tabletop
games that often gets lost in video
games, but it’s a lot more effort to
actually be present at someone
else’s house for a tabletop game.
Taverns Tales: Tabletop Adventures
hopes to take the hassle out of
Dungeons and Dragonsby allowing
people to meet up for your favourite
board games in a virtual living room.
There’s a number of immersive and
customisable maps you can choose.

AI predicts Coronavirus
will infect 2.5B people...
An AI model developed by
HedgeChatter founder James Ross
has predicted that the Coronavirus
would affect over2.5-billion
people worldwide and kill almost
53 million people in just 45 days
from the end of January when the
prediction model was developed.
Considering that by the18th of
February there were 73 ,259
infected cases and the model
projected that there’d be over
200 ,000in the third week of
February, the model is clearly not
taking the same trajectory, but it
does show that either the initial
data wasn’t accurate, or the steps
China are taking to quarantine the
disease are working.

NZ Police has a new
AI officer
In an attempt to address the fact
that only around a quarter of
crimes in New Zealand are believed
to be reported, a new AI officer is
being trialled at the police national
headquarters in Wellington. Ella, as
the force’s new Electronic Life-Like
Assistant is known, will act as an
initial public interface. It’s hoped
that Ella and an accompanying
crime reporting kiosk will
streamline enquiries and be less
intimidating for people wanting to
report crimes.

Adam Savage builds
Spot-powered
Steampunk rickshaw
If you’ve seen any amazing or,
frankly, creepy robots in the last
few years, chances are it was the
brainchild of the MIT robotics spin
off company Boston Dynamics.
While this company’s raft of
autonomous robots get no
shortage of press, the company
managed to capture our
imagination again by tweaking one
of its Spot robots to enable it to
pull a steampunk rickshaw built by
Mythbustersco-host Adam
Savage. At least we can teach new
dogs old tricks.
