Directions: Solve and check.

3x + 5 = 38

Solution: 3 푥푥+ 5 = 38

− 5 − 5

3 푥푥= 33

3푥푥 3 =^333

푥푥= 11

Answer: 푥푥 = 11

Check: 3 ∙ 11 + 5 = 38

33 + 5 = 38

38 = 38 ✓

11x ─ 9x + 2 ─2 =10

Solution:

Combine like terms: 11x ─ 9x + 2 ─2 =10

2x + 2 ─ 2 =10

Simplify: 2-2 = 0, so 2x = 10

Divide each side by 2: x = 5

Answer: x = 5

Check: 11(10) ─ 9(10) + 2 ─2 =10

110 ─90 + 2 – 2 =10

10=10 ✓

Add 3 to each side to isolate the variable: 3 + 6 = (푚푚 7 ) ─3 + 3
