Menu Option Description

Blur Adds a Gaussian blur to the current alpha—useful for counteracting noise
Noise Adds noise to the current alpha
Max Specifies the maximum range—similar to Auto Level in Photoshop
MidValue Sets the midline value of no displacement
Rf Specifies radial fade
Intensity Specifies intensity
Contrast Controls alpha contrast
Alpha Adjust Allows fine-tuning of alpha values
Flip H Flips the current alpha horizontally
Flip V Flips the current alpha vertically
Rotate Rotates the current alpha 90 degrees
Invers Inverts the current alpha
Mres Sets the resolution of the mesh generated from the alpha when you click
the Make 3D button
Mdep Sets the depth of the mesh generated with Make3D
Msm Sets the smoothness of the mesh generated with Make3D
Dbls When generating a 3D object from an alpha, specifies double sided
Make 3D Makes a 3D object from the current alpha
Make Tx Makes texture from the current alpha
Make St Make stencil from the current alpha
Make Modified Alpha Saves a copy of the current alpha with all modifiers baked in
Cc Clears color information from the canvas when cropping and filling with
an alpha
Crop And Fill Crops the canvas to the current alpha size and fills it with the alpha
texture
GrabDoc Grabs a depth map of the current canvas layer and stores it in the Alpha
palette
Alpha Depth Factor Controls the depth intensity of the alpha when applied to the canvas
with Crop And Fill

Alphas can be used as texture stamps in conjunction with the Stroke menu. By changing
to a nonradial alpha like Alpha 07, which is a bump alpha, and using the DragRect stroke, you
can add surface details as if stamping them directly from the alpha image (Figure 4.10).
