If you carefully consider the detailing, you could start to develop more original ideas.
Could a frightening creature have a flowing scale pattern? The following is a mesh layout
quickly roughed out in Maya:


The next image is a higher level. I’ve drawn in the crests on the deltoid but haven’t
smoothed them in yet; I’ve started to block in the scales on the head. I’ve just indicated the
spacing on the tendons on the hand. This is where you can work out the spacing or transi-
tion between small and big scales.
