Died unexpectedly ofastroke on March 11,
2020 in Richmond,VA.Heissurvived by
his wife of 51 years,Susan Spielman Austin,
daughter,Kathleen (Jim) McCarthy,son,Jay
(Wenona) Austin and “adopted” son, Markus
Franklin. He was Poppie to four wonderful
grandchildren, Thomas and Piper Austin and
Emily and Noah McCarthy.
Stan was born March 3, 1946 inWashington,
DC and lived most of his life in Northern
Virginia and DC.His career asapolicy analyst
for theU.S.Office of Personnel Management
spanned more than 30 years and included a
term asaFellow in the office of Connecticut
Congressman Christopher Shays.
An avid soccer fan, Stan was active inFairfax
VAYouth Soccer asacoach, referee and
Commissioner.Inretirement he reveled in
the 24/7 Cable TV Soccer package where he
cheered for his beloved Arsenal (and any other
team playing) and critiqued all the ref’scalls.
He vicariously enjoyed the Great British Baking
Show because it wasacontinual disappoint-
ment to him that his wife never learned to
makeaproper pecan pie.
Stan volunteered with STEPdc asayouth tutor
and mentor,delivered Meals on Wheels for
Feed More in Richmond and as an ordained
Deacon in the Presbyterian Church of America
(PCA), he faithfully served congregations at
three churches in DC and Virginia.

hobbies,Kim’sfirst teenage hobby was that
of hamradio operator.Ofspecific interest
for this pastime was when, in November
1978, he andacolleague were on the air
andasignal frequency crossed with theirs,
much likeatelephone party line,and they
found themselves listening to the deranged
plottings of Jim Jones in Guyana. Under
promise of anonymous cover,Kim notified
the FCC and the rest, unfortunately,ishistory.
Onalighter note,Kim was especially adept
at fly-fishing, his sport of choice,for which he
designed and hand-tied exceptionally intri-
cate lures.Among his favorite escapes for
the sport was theFall River in northeastern
Shasta County,CA,adesignated Heritage
and WildTr out sanctuary stream. He also had
an enviable ink-pen collection,avast music
library,andacarefully curated art collection.
Like his father,Kim wasagifted artist and
photography buff whose works are treasured
by family and friends.Anoenophile of note,
Kim also collected fine wines from around
the world and cherished his friendship with
one of Napa’smost storied wine makers,
Warren Winiarski, founder of Stags Leap Wine
Cellars,whose SLVvineyard Cabernet Sauvi-
gnon grapes won the Judgment inParis Blind
Tasting in 1976. The two had also been
fishing comrades.
With his wife,Susan, Kim was the loving
master of many Golden Retrievers,the last
beingabeloved rescue named Maggie.
The family wishes to thank Kim’sdedicated
health and critical care providers led by his
wife Susan, who attended to his needs ever
since his bouts with brain cancer in 2007 and
subsequent onsets ofParkinson’s,dementia,
and the final culprit, Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Weare especially grateful to his home care
provider,Jason (Jay) Cole,the Hospice by the
Bay team, and its Spiritual Support Counselor,
Stephen Grafenstine.Our magnified appre-
ciation goes to Kim’slegion of friends and
neighbors who have been so thoughtful in
his waning years.Hewould especially want
to thank his respected friend, restaurateur
and lifestyle connoisseur,Doug Biederbeck,
whose affection and knowledge he cherished
as well as Curbside Café’sOlivier Perrier,
and ChuckTumminia, his barber,for their
unwavering friendship.Hewould also want
to thank fly-fishing companions Byron
Richards,Rich Brayton and the others for
their hospitable coordination of gratifying
catch and release outings over the years.
Always appreciative of his “girl friends”, Kim
hadadevoted coterie of same,and among
the most special to him were Dagmar Beren-
des,Joann Sowell and Marcia HugginsJah-
ncke,each of whom has indelible memories
of him. Kim was profoundly grateful for the
love and devotion he received from his sister
and her husband DannyWard who he con-
sidered his true brother and with whom he
shared the joy of wine tasting, gifting, joke
telling, and love of music,evidenced by their
foraging trips at Amoeba Music whenever he
was visiting from Houston.
Aparishioner of St. Dominic’sCatholic
Church, Kim received the Last Rights and
his final Communion at home on March
11, 2020. Memorial service plans will be
announced privately to family members and
friends after the COVID-19 crisis has passed.

at NBC’sWRC-TV.Healso worked with
Dave Garroway,and on the Huntley-Brinkley
Report. He beganacareer in Public Relations
for the semiconductor industry in 1966 as a
PR master and junior executive atFairchild
Semiconductor with posts in SiliconValley’s
Mountain View,CAand Milan, Italy.He
transitioned to LSI Logic to become Director
of Product PR before joiningTensilica Inc.
Soon thereafter,heco-founded The Leapfrog
Group,with friends and partners,Geri Hadley
and Larry Bender.The company handled
Branding, PR, Advertising, and Corporate ID
for high tech companies and organizations.
Kim was considered an exceptional branding-
awareness strategist before retiring in 2004.
Arenaissance man with several talents and

his own civil and criminal law office and
practiced from 1983 to 2018, when he
retired. Over the course of his career,John
establishedasterling reputation in leading
numerous high-profile cases inFederal Court.
In sum, he wasatrue leader in legal reform
within the state.
John was elected asaState Senator in
1994, there he sponsored significant law,
includingacritical bill to protect gay rights
andarevision of the Uniform Commercial
Code.After eight years he became Senate
Parliamentarian. He was elected President of
the Rhode Island Bar Association in 2003 and
was honored with the Community Service
Award in 1995 and the Public Service Pro-
grams Certificate of Appreciation in 2009.
In 1988, John married BarbaraKennedy
Roney,and they split their time between
Providence and Tiverton, where they kept
perhaps his most-prized possession,a38’
Alden Challenger sailboat. John loved the
outdoors,and was happiest sailing with
friends and family,takinganightly swim, or
fishing with his eight adoring grandchildren:
Abigail, Ethan, Havana, Cairo,Dublin, Greta,
Sylvie,and Harrison.
John is survived by his wife,BarbaraRoney,
his children, Christopher Roney (Lisa), Carley
Roney (David), and Kristina Hanson Lowell

John Marshall Roney died peacefully on
March 10, 2020, in Providence,RI.
John was born on September 21, 1939, in
Washington, DC,the son Joseph Roney,and
Elizabeth Marshall Chamblin. He graduated
from St. John’sMilitary Academy,Providence
College and The Catholic University Law
School. He and his first wife,Irene Howe
had two children, Christopher and Carley.He
joinedD.C.Legal Services,which launched
his lifelong advocacy for the vulnerable and
voiceless and his appreciation for the power
of using the law for the betterment of people
and their communities.
In 1970 he joined Rhode Island Legal Services
where he was instrumental in many prece-

Michael was born on May 16, 1974, in Cape
Town, South Africa, and emigrated with his
parents in 1990.Following graduation fromW.T.
Woodson High School, he went to The George
Washington University,where he majored in
English and met his future wife,Johanna. A
life-long intellectual,raconteur,bon vivant and
aloverofthegreatquesttoanswerthe
difficult questions,hebrought warmth and
humor to the pursuit of understanding.Though
he knew the answers were not permanent, nor
necessarily discoverable,henever gave up the
search.
When action was required, he reached the right
conclusions too: one of his proudest moments
was visiting the South African embassy to
vote for Nelson Mandela in the 1994 election,
overcoming the burden of an early education
in apartheid authoritarianism. He embraced his
American citizenship withasense of wonder
and enthusiasm, delving into the questions
of our culture and politics with gusto,and
encouraging those around him to be the best
they could be.
A2005 graduate of the University of Maryland
Graduate School of Journalism, he wrote for
newspapers in Maryland, Virginia,D.C.,Mass-
achusetts,Texas,and NewYork.From his
early days asabeat reporter on the crime
desk to interviews with Norman Mailer and
Bret Easton Ellis,Michael treated his subjects
fairly and with insight, and was beloved by his
editors and fellow reporters.
He is survived by his wife,Johanna Huber Santa
Rita, his daughters,Beatrice and Charlotte,
his parents,Joao and Penny Santa Rita, his
sister Katherine Glenn Shreeve Santa Rita, his
brother-in-law,Daniel Glenn and many of the
friends and extended family whose lives he
touched.

On March 18, 2020, Elizabeth Mann Hight
died followingalong illness,with her husband
Alfred Harf at her side.Born on November
6,1947 in NashvilleTennessee,she moved
to Bethesda Maryland asachild with her
parents Charles Henry Hight and Jewell Mann
Hight when her father began work as an
attorney at the USVeterans Administration.
Elizabeth graduated from Montgomery Coun-
ty'sWalt Whitman High School in 1965, and
later earned undergraduate degrees from
Colby College as an art major and George
Washington University in environmental stud-
ies.
Elizabeth’sprofessional life was diverse,mir-
roring her many varied interests.Initially she
worked asareporter for UPI, and later as
HIGHT
to active duty during the Cuban Crises.He
remained in the reserves,going active duty
again, for the government at the Naval Dis-
charge Review Board. He retired after 20
years,having served his country,proudly.He
wasalongtime member of the American
Legion in Virginia.
He belonged to the St. Ambrose Catholic
Church in AnnandaleVA,adevout Catholic,
he also belonged to Legion of Mary (27 years)
praying the rosary daily,especially in front of
abortion clinics.Heheld many offices with
the Legion of Mary.
Ron wasafamily man and enjoyed returning
to St Albans twiceayear.Once in the summer
and again at the holidays.Heenjoyed the
jokes and laughter with friends and family
and he was able to watch the babies grow
into loving young people.
Survivors include his brother,Robert Lemnah
and his wife,Sandra, of Burlington and two
sisters-in-law,Marlys Lemnah and Reba Lem-
nah both of St. Albans,aswell as several
nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents,Ron was pre-
deceased by his brothers,MSGT Richard
Lemnah on October 23, 1983,FayLemnah
onJanuary 22, 2018, and Harold Lemnah on
September 6, 2018.
There will be no public Mass and reception
for Ron on March 23.Father Bergida will
celebrate his private Mass for Ron that day.
Later,once the Mass ban is lifted, there
will beapublic memorial Mass for Ron and
areception. So,bottom, line all the public
activities for Ron here have been postponed.

Lemnah has passed over into the arms of
God, afterashort illness.
Born in St. Albans,hewas the son of the late
ClarenceG.and Etta (Erwin) Lemnah.
Ron moved toWashington, DC and then to
Virginia, after graduating from BFASt. Albans
in 1956. He wasadance instructor forFred
Astaire Studios;adesign landscaper and
then computer programming for the Naval
Discharge Review Board.
Ron got to work alongside his brother,MSGT
Richard L. Lemnah, forafew years.The
plan was for the Lemnah Brothers to go
into the computer business,together upon
Richard’sretirement from theU.S.Marine
Corps.Things changed when Richard was KIA
in Beirut, Lebanon, the bombing of barracks
on October 23, 1983.

her work. She rose to the highest non-
appointed levels at EPAthrough tenacity,
diligence,and exceptional management and
thinking skills.Over her 31 year career,she
received many distinguished awards for her
outstanding service at EPAand her contribu-
tions to environmental protection, such as
cleaning polluted waterways.
Loretta and her husband enjoyed traveling to
many destinations in North America, Europe,
Asia and Australia. They frequently visited
museums and attended theatrical perfor-
mancesranging from operaatworld class
venues to community theater at home in
Fairlington,VA.
Loretta will be sorely missed by many rela-
tives and friends.She leaves behind three
brothers: Larry (Diane), JosephV.(Rose M.)
and AlfredP.(Barbara) Marzetti;asister-in-
law,Ellen Marzetti (Philip,deceased); four
nieces: Lisa Broyhill (Joel), Andrea Marie

Loretta A. Marzetti lost her courageous battle
against brain cancer onFebruary 24, 2020 in
Arlington,VA.Born March 13, 1943 in Long
Island, NewYork, Ms.Marzetti attended St.
Francis Xavier School, Notre Dame Academy
and Catholic University of America, all in
Washington, DC.She is survived by her hus-
band of almost 34 years,Jerry Miller of
Catonsville,MD.
Loretta leavesalegacy of love,compassion,
helpfulness and faithful concern for others.
She was generous,positive and supportive
to her family and friends.She wasasecond
mother to her four younger brothers and the
primary caregiver to her parents,Lawrence
Arthur and JosephinePalazzo Marzetti in
their later life.Over her 76 years,Loretta
cherished friends made in first grade while
continuing to make new ones.

Retired Professor of Biology at Georgetown
University,EllenJane Henderson passed
away at Georgetown Hospital onFebruary
1, 2020. She will be deeply missed by close
friends and family and mourned by legions
of former colleagues and students.
Dr.Henderson was born in Little Rock,
Arkansas onFebruary 16, 1940 and grew
up in Indianapolis,Indiana. She earned her
degrees at Purdue University and was a
PostdoctoralFellow at the University of
Edinburgh, after which she was appointed
the first female tenure track professor in
chemistry at MIT.She spent the bulk of her
career at Georgetown, from 1980 until her
retirement in 2008, introducing generations
of students to Cell Biology and mentoring
graduate students in her laboratory.She is
listedasanoteworthybiologyeducatorby
MarquisWho’sWho.
Professor Henderson was namedaFellow
of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science in 1991 for her
ground-breaking research in cell biology.
She was an active member of the American
Society of Cell Biology and the Association
forWomen in Science.
On campus Dr.Henderson served as the
Chair of Biology from 2000-2006, and she
was tireless in her support ofWomen’s
Studies,the creation of the LGBTQ Center,
and undergraduate and graduate students,
particularly women. She also served on the
University Rank andTenure Committee and
was central to the development of plans
for the new science building, Regents Hall.
She was an intrepid traveler,hiker,bird-
lover,and photographer,aswell asalover
of music,particularly opera. Her trips
included treks in the Himalayas and on
K2, and her beloved highlands in Scotland.
Professor Henderson is survived by her sis-
ter,Julia Heard, and her husband, Jim
Heard, by three nephews,Bryan Heard,
Curtis Heard, Chris Heard, andaniece,
Carolyn HeardWerther,aswell as 10 great-

WilliamFrancis Sheehan, born October 12,
1928, passed away peacefully afteralong
illness on March 17, 2020. Bill was born and
raised inWashington, DC,and graduated
from GeorgeWashington University and
The Catholic University of America law
school.Aveteran ofWorldWarII, he was
proud to beamember of the United States
Marine Corps.Heserved asaSpecial Agent
of theFederal Bureau of Investigation and
later worked in the insurance industry as
asenior executive,managing legal claims
until retirement in 1991.
Bill was the oldest of three children born
to the late John and Winifred Sheehan. His
brother,Frank, and sister,Margaret prede-
ceased him. He was the beloved husband
of Marcella (nee Cairney) for 65 years.
Bill will forever be remembered by his
devoted children, Daniel Sheehan (Denise),
Mary Elizabeth Whelan (John), Kathleen Lilly
(David), Jennifer Graham (David),Jacqueline
Cassidy (James), and Brendan Sheehan
(Kristy). He treasured his 18 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren, along with
countless other friends and family who
were blessed to know him.
In addition to spending time with his family,
Bill was an avid golfer and traveled often
with Marcella. He also loved playing the
sport of baseball in his youth and watching
it as he aged. He wasalifelong member
of the Knights of Columbus and wasPast
Grand Knight of Council 1695.
Bill touched the lives of many people with
his wisdom, Catholic faith, and generosity.
He maintained his trademark sense of
humor all the way to the end. Services
will be determined.
