FIND YOUR BEACH, LITERALLY
If you don’t live close enough to the coast to join a beach cleanup, skincare
brand Kinship offers the next best thing. Before you crack open its complexion-
quenching gel cream—or any of its other products housed in containers made
from ocean-waste plastic—check the bottom of the jar for a QR code. Scan it with
the camera on your phone to learn the exact coordinates where the materials
that made that packaging were collected. Since 2019, the brand has collected
1.5 tons of plastic from the oceans, rivers, and beaches of Indonesia.
Drought-Proof Hair Care
New hair-care brand Waterless was developed and launched in 2018, as
Cape Town found itself facing Day Zero: a scenario in which the city’s
taps dry out and water rationing is needed. Residents were advised to
conserve as much water as possible, which made shampooing a struggle.
The products address the four pillars of keeping your hair fresh and
funk free—cleaning, conditioning, fragrance, and styling—all to be used
without a drop of water. Even if you’re not dealing with a water crisis,
fewer washes leads to more vibrant color and hydrated hair, which
makes these dry do-it-alls an asset, no matter where you live and bathe.
