coulddoubleupasrhythmguitarist.
“Heaskedmeif I wouldbe
interestedinjoiningtheband,”
recalledRaymond,whoseaddition
completed what diehard fans
considertobetheclassicUFO
lineup,theonethatdelivered
LightsOut(1977),thefollowing
year’sObsessionandlivefavourite
StrangersInTheNight(1979).
Raymondenjoyedfourspellswith
thegroup,thelatestrunningfrom
2003 totheircurrenttour;hedied
ofa heartattackeightdaysafterthe
hardrockershadplayedLondon’s
Forum.Theinterveningyearssaw
himbrieflyjoinWayandanother
sometimeUFObandmateMichael
schenkerintheirrespectivebands
- WaystedandMsG– whilealso
collaboratingwithTerryReidand
forminghisownoutfit,thePaul
RaymondProject.
He’dstartedoutwithpsych-
poppersPlasticPennyin1967,
scoringa Top 10 hitwithTheBox
Tops’“everythingI Am”,before
movingontoChickenshackandthe
aforementioned savoy Brown.

withTheRoadducksandenjoyed
