Asever,thebiggestjumps are beingseen
withcars that havesomethingspecialabout
themintheway of mileage orhistory.That’s
howthemarketgoes– that kindof carleads
thetrend,othersgetcarriedby theslipstream.

CCArecentlytook £12,210 for a handsome
XJ-SCwith54,000miles, and Historics got
£22,500fora verynice 5.3 Le Mans with 44,600.
Nothingoutrageous,just steady uplifts.
Andthemarketdoesn’t look in danger of
gettingcarriedaway,because a couple of very
nicecoupéshavebeen offered with too-high
reservesandhavebeen ignored.
We’reat that stage where if you have one it’s
worthstickingwithfor now, but there’s also no
dangerof themquickly becoming unaffordable.

ButBrightwellsrecentlygota verystrong
£26,400foronethat stillneededsome
work to complete its restoration.
That actually seems fair because
these British sports cars have long
seemed undervalued. Given their
early Fifties history at Le Mans and
as rally cars, you would expect
them to at least match Triumph
TR2s for price, but it’s been a long
time since that was the case. This
re sult suggests these swoopy curios
are finally starting to catch the
established favourites up though.

Jupitersfulfilthecurrent market trend for
Britishanda bitleft-field, and those distinctive
looksmightnot flowlike a Pininfarina design,
buttheyreallygrowon you when you see one
upclose. Oneto watch.
