he latest addition to my fleet
is a Europa, which bookends
my small but growing classic
Lotus road car collection – I

production cars. The collection
starts with a 1961 Lotus Elite,
alwaysa carnearthetopofmy
‘wants’ list both for its design
and its place in the development of
automotive structures. This is followed
closely by my 1962 S2 Lotus Seven, an

The story goesthat the Lotus Europa
designconceptfirstappearedintheearly
Sixties, fr omthe pen of the talented
designerRonHickmanofLotusElanfame.
Whateveritsbeginnings,whentheEuropa
finally reappearedin production form in
1966 it was Chapman’s intention that it

seen many Europas over the years, but
whenthis onewas unloaded and rolled

how low and squat it looked! Feeding

It has turned out to be a welcome
addition– notonly tomycollection,but
to mygrowing list ofdaily drivers. Like
the plus-two Elans, Europa prices have
