named “Ruby Lights on Columns”
and rename it “Emerald Lights on
Columns.” Click the disclosure arrow
next to the Emerald Lights on Col-
umns group to open it, revealing the
layers. Double-click each Solid Color
adjustment layer, changing each from
ruby to emerald (#50c878). Change
each layer’s blend mode from Color
to Lighter Color and their Opacity to
50%. The reason for changing the
blend mode is to give the appearance
of separate lights next to the ruby and
white (clear) lights. Change the Opac-
ity of the group folder to 50% so it
doesn’t overpower the ruby lights.
We now have the illusion of three
rows of lights.
Step Nine: In doing further research
about the rest of the light colors,
I learned that the same colors were
used in the rest of the Festival Hall
and the grounds surrounding it as
on the columns. The dome had
ruby and white (clear) lights, so
we’ll work on that next. We’ll begin
with the white lights first. Make a
selection with the Rectangular Mar-
quee tool (M) around the dome, as
shown here.
Step 10: Click on the Create New
Adjustment Layer icon and choose
Solid Color again. Initially, make this
blue (#0000ff), since again we’re
working on a dark image. As with
the column lights, we’ll convert the
lights to white once we’re done with
this layer. Double-click on the layer
and name it “White Dome Lights.”
