P
itting warriors
from throughout
history against
each other, For
Honor has always
been a timey-wimey sort of
game. It made the perfect
battlefield for the return of
the Sands Of Time, and the
Prince Of Persia who must
restore the natural order.
Largely built around the
Rule Of Time limited mode,
the game’s interface was
revamped to reflect the
crossover. In the new mode,
the Harbor map was turned
into a sandier version, and
players had to deal with
vicious sand-infested beings
in a match of Dominion. At
various points the Prince
himself emerged from a
sand cyclone to take out the
trash, regardless of what
side players were on. Then,
once enough time had
passed, we were treated to
another revamp, the map
changing once again and
introducing the Dark Prince.
Plenty of princely loot
could be earned, including
skins. Considering we
haven’t had a proper Prince
Of Persia since 2010, more
Prince is long past due. But
isn’t ittimefor a new game?

COD’S TAKE ON
BATTLE ROYALE

SMITE – MULAN
Check your Disney at the door,
folks. This 108th addition to Smite’s
pantheon of MOBA heroes is Hua
Mulan, the Ascendant Warrior, the
legend behind the story of Mulan,
not the House Of Mouse’s version.
Not only has she been terrific fun
to play as, for PS Plus members
she’s completely free to unlock in
the Chinese-themed Mulan Plus
Bundle, which also includes Nu Wa
and other bonuses.
HOLFRAINE
Originally a modest Kickstarter
project that began in 2018,
Holfraine is finally here to play for
the bargainous price of £3.99.
Designed to be a stripped-back
team hero shooter where you
don’t have to worry about specific
roles or masses of other players,
the focus is on brief matches
with plenty of action so you don’t
feel like you’re just waiting for big
moments to happen.
DESTINY 2 – SEASON
OF THE WORTHY
Guardians had to band together
in the new season to power up
the Warmind Rasputin in order
to protect The Last City as story
events began to heat up. Public
events in Seraph Towers really
made it feel like a communal event,
and there were bunkers to be
cleared as well. Yes, there was
plenty of loot, but Destiny 2 has
masses more for the dedicated.
For Honor’s Blades Of Persia crossover was princely

Time for a comeback
Call Of Duty: Warzone
(what’s that? Flip to p68)
isn’t the military shooter’s
first knife stab at a battle
royale, but could it be
the first step in the right
direction for the series
as live games continue
to dominate as we hurtle
towards PS5?
Back when
Call Of Duty:
Black Ops IIII
was announced and the
series’ first battle royale
mode, Blackout, was teased,
something didn’t feel quite
right to me. Not only was
the new Blops forgoing
a story mode, but it was
essentially three games
merged together: a Black-
Ops-flavoured hero shooter;
a zombies co-op mode; and
a battle royale. Surely these
could have been released
as separate packages or a
bundle, letting players pick
what they wanted?
While you do need a full
download of the latest game,
Modern Warfare, to access
Call Of Duty: Warzone, it’s
free to play and is (for all
intents and purposes on the
store) its own dedicated
product. While annual
releases don’t have to stop,
COD’s developers need to
step back and look at how
they can release some
modes with longer shelf-
lifes, and lower the barrier
to entry when the game has
to compete with the likes of
Fortnite and Apex Legends.
Now... where’s Zombies?
