Mixing card-
battling, deck-
building, turn-based
strategy with a
Superhot visual
style, developer
Ground Shatter’s new game can’t
fail to catch the eye.
Fights In Tight Spaces is exactly
that, a series of short tactical fights
inside small rooms, delivered in a
crunching visual style. At the bottom
of the screen is your deck of cards
detailing the attacks, defences,
and moves your
well-dressed
brawler can
perform. Which
cards you choose to
play, and when, will
dictate the success

of your attacks. Stringing together
moves, such as Grapple with Heavy
Strike, may give you Momentum,
and using this can turn fights
around. Cards have buffs offering
Momentum, Damage, and Distance
points, and combining cards can
offer round-winning upgrades.
There’s more to the game than
brutally taking down each room’s
enemies. You need to strategically
manage your position and that of
your enemy to get the most from
each card you play. For example,
play a Swap to
switch positions
with an enemy,
lining up your
opponents so your
next attack will
launch one into the
other, dealing
damage to multiple enemies.
Each room has specific challenges

  • in one revealed you need to protect
    an ambassador from assailants,
    using positional cards to manoeuvre
    him out of harm’s way.
    The dev’s previous game, Rico,
was a fun arcade take on Rainbow
Six Siege, but Fights In Tight Spaces
looks to be dealing something new.

The game’s simple
visual style looks
fantastic in motion.

TECH TALK
Mark Cerny delivered an
hour of tech talk and we
now love the Tempest
Engine and all the other
terms we heard.
PlayStation 5 will be
kicking up a storm
when it releases.

GRINDING BACK?
Punk band The Death
Set revealed they’ve
licensed their songs to
a Tony Hawk game. We’d
love a proper new Pro
Skater on next-gen
hardware, with haptic
feedback making every
scrape feel real.

SNOW ANGEL
Naughty Dog teased The
Last Of Us Part II in a
video showing Ellie
jumping onto a snow-
covered lorry. Nice, but
we want it now!

RELIGHT OUR FIRE
The creator of No Man’s
Sky is finally bringing
the stunning The Last
Campfire to PS4.
Prepare to shed some
tears this summer.

FROM THE SHADOWS
With mixed feelings
we’re both excited and
fearful of PS2-era
horror Shadowman
making a return to
PlayStation. A complete
remaster is coming
from Nightdive Studios
next year. PS5-bound?

HOME ALONE
Coronavirus sent us
all home; this issue
was made from our
bedrooms. We hope
you’re still with us and
keeping well.
