“She has quite a variety of sessions that
focus on different times of the day, different
parts of your body and different durations. I
particularly like the Wake Up or Healthy
Energy Flow sessions.
“She is American and has a lovely relaxed
manner. Of the ones I have done I haven’t
found any too intense. Bearing in mind
I’m 71 and I have bad knees, I can
manage the level of asanas (postures)
in her sessions. She also often has her
dog for company which is an added
bonus for pet lovers. He’s usually
asleep! Here are two photos which
show Haachi joining in and Tansy just
watching!”

be carried out at home, in your garden or
front room with no specialist equipment.
“These exercises are designed to get you
moving. Wear something comfortable and
loose,” says Julie. “All you will need is two
tins or two plastic bottles filled with liquid
and a pair of old tights or a resistance band.
“Do what feels right. If you want to work

harder, make your movements bigger or do
more repetitions. If you want it to be easier
do fewer and build up. Remember, warm up
and cool down with gentle stretches.”
You can do Julie’s simple workouts
day-by-day, or collect all the exercises and
build them into a longer workout. From
today, the exercises will step it up a little.

Now you will be working on your balance,
your motor fitness, your strength and
flexibility.

ANSWERS YOUR
CORONAVIRUS
QUESTIONS

Q

I am an 83-year-old
woman and live alone. I
have a one-and-a-half-acre
garden with no near
neighbours. Can I go out and
do some gardening and sit
outside and have a cup of tea?

A

If you are otherwise
healthy, then your age
means you should take care
and practise social distancing
as much as possible, as you are
more at risk of severe illness if
you catch the Covid-19 virus.
But even if you had a
medical condition and came
into the extremely vulnerable
group who are advised to
“shield” themselves, you can
still go out into your own
garden, especially if it is as
large as yours!
And it would be good for
you, as going outside gives you
some fresh air, and also some
exposure to sunshine, which is
important in boosting your
vitamin D levels. Though if it’s
very sunny, even though it’s
only April, you should wear
suncream on exposed skin,
and a hat to protect your face
and eyes. If you can do some
gardening as well, then that’s
even better, as it will give you
some exercise. Then sit
back and enjoy a
cup of tea.

DAY 12 SIDE TOE
TAPS WITH HIGH
PUNCHES

This exercise is a
great all-rounder,
working your thighs,
your bottom, your
middle, your back,
shoulders and arms.
Aim to do 8-
repetitions each side
.

1

Start with
shoulders
relaxed, a slight
bend in your knees
and don’t hold your
breath. Hold two
tins or filled
bottles.

2

Take your right
leg out to the
side and point your
toe, as you punch
over to the left side
with your right arm.
Don’t overstretch
or lock the elbow.

3

Now take your
left leg out to
the side pointing
your toe and punch
upwards with your
left arm. Breathe
normally and don’t
twist. Keep your
body facing
forward.
