- Convert the layer to a smart object. To add a smart
filter, you need to convert the image to a smart object
in one of the following ways:
- Choose Layer→Smart Objects→Convert to Smart
Object. If you loaded dekeKeys back in the Preface
(see Steps 8 through 10, page xix), you can press
the shortcut Ctrl+ (or �- ).
- Right-click (or Control-click) the Background
layer in the Layers panel and choose Convert to
Smart Object.
- Choose Filter→Convert for Smart Filters. As shown
in Figure 7-25, this method displays a message
alerting you to the fact that the command makes
a smart object. You already knew that, so turn on
the Don’t Show Again check box and click OK.
Photoshop names the new layer Layer 0. I suggest
you rename it “Smart Object” or something equally
meaningful.
