Adobe Photoshop CS5 One-on-One

(やまだぃちぅ) #1

The file includes a few dormant adjustment layers and layer
effects. Go ahead and turn on all the s in the Layers panel.
Shift-click the Eyes layer mask to make it active. Set the Eyes
layer to Vivid Light with a Fill value of 50 percent. Ctrl-click
(-click on the Mac) the Eyes mask to load it as a selection
outline. Switch to the filter mask below the Model layer and
press Ctrl+Backspace (-Delete) to mask away the filters in
the eyes. Then Alt-click (or Option-click) on the horizontal
line between the Colorize and Model layers to combine the
two into a clipping mask. Press Ctrl+D (-D) to deselect the
image. The finished poster shows the result.

Smart filters are also applicable to editable type. Select the
Kill Jill layer, switch the blend mode to Normal, and choose
Filter→Convert for Smart Filters. Then apply the following
from the Filter menu:

  • Blur→Motion Blur. Angle: 90 degrees, Distance: 200
pixels. I changed the Blend Mode to Linear Dodge (Add).

  • Other→Maximum. Radius: 15 pixels. Changing the
Blend Mode to Screen makes for letters inside letters.
For a bit more blur, I Alt-dragged (Option-dragged) the Motion
Blur entry above Maximum to duplicate it. Then I double-
clicked the icon and reduced the Opacity to 20 percent.

Pictured below, the final movie poster includes some additional
treatments assigned to the still editable Kill, Jill layer. You can
check them out in Finished movie poster.psd, also included in
the Lesson 7 folder. Admittedly, this is a whirlwind tour of the
kinds of effects you can achieve when you combine Photoshop’s
parametric capabilities.
