Before beginning the exercises, make sure
you’ve downloaded the lesson files from
http://www.oreilly.com/go/Deke-PhotoshopCS5,
as directed in Step 2 on page xvi of the
Preface. This means you should have a
folder called Lesson Files-PsCS5 1on1 on
your desktop (or whatever location you
chose). We’ll be working with the files in-
side the Lesson 08 subfolder.

This lesson teaches you how to use Photoshop’s distortion tools to
bend, bloat, nip, tuck, squish, and reposition the subjects of your
images. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use Free Transform to change scale and skew
    an independent layer................ .page 262

  • Enhance posture and appearance with Liquify.. .page 267

  • Manipulate limbs and letters with Puppet Warp.. page 276

  • Selectively stretch and squish your image with
    Content-Aware Scaling............... .page 287

To get your bearings with Photoshop’s powerful
distortion tools, it’s best to watch them in action.
So in this video lesson, I demonstrate the Liquify
tool that you’ll see later in the book-based exercise.
There’s nothing quite like watching the occasion-
ally wacky, always entertaining pixel-squishing and
pixel-stretching power of Photoshop transforma-
tions in motion. I’ll review all the tools you have at
your disposal in Liquify, from the straightforward
Warp to the surreal Turbulence.
To experience Liquify live, visit http://www.oreilly.com/
go/deke-PhotoshopCS5. Click the Watch button to
view the lesson online or click the Download but-
ton to save it to your computer. During the video,
you’ll learn these shortcuts:
