Adobe Photoshop CS5 One-on-One

With all that in mind, start by choosing Cloudy from the White
Balance pop-up menu. You’ll see that it has the immediate ef-
fect of warming the skin tones, perhaps a little too much.
I suggest that you cool the photos just a bit by lowering the
Temperature value to 6150 degrees. Then remove some of the
magenta from the images by moving the Tint slider to the left
(toward green) to a value of –5 or thereabouts. As you can see in
Figure 9-8, the adjustment accurately accounts for the lighting
conditions under which the preview image was shot.

You can correct a color cast also by using the white balance tool in
the horizontal toolbar. Select the icon near the top of the window
and click a color in the image that should be a light neutral gray—try
clicking the white inside-out pocket on the right side of the image. ACR
sets the Temperature and Tint values as needed. In my case, this method
gets pretty close to the settings I chose manually. If necessary, you can
tweak from that point with the sliders. (Your results will vary depending
on the exact spot you click.) If you don’t like the results, try again or
adjust the sliders slightly. Double-click the eyedropper icon to restore
the As Shot values, but remember that puts you back at square one.
