St Barbara; the chapel is
decorated with frescoes from
around 1460. The monastery’s
Church of the Assumption has
a main altarpiece painting of
the Annunciation, a copy of
Rubens’s work. The Gothic
Madonna, below the painting,
is from the late 14th century.

This museum (Západočeské
muzeum) is in a Neo-Baroque
building with a grand Art
Nouveau interior dating from

1898. The reliefs on the
      staircase and the Art Nouveau
      library furnish ings are impres-
      sive. Exhibits include the

armoury of Charles IV, and a

glass and porcelain collection

in the vast, stately Jubilee Hall.

1838 and 1930 to store

the fermenting brew.
