A great place for meat-lovers, this restaurant offers an enormous choice of over 60 types of steak, from classic beef
to wild boar, kangaroo, shark and ostrich meat. All meats are roasted, fried or grilled according to the customer’s

In spring and summer, the particularly popular feature of this famous restaurant in Petřín Park is its patio with a
magnificent view over Prague. The interior is snug and elegant. The menu includes seafood, steaks, Chinese food
and Czech cuisine. Specialities are mouthwatering desserts such as stuffed pear with ricotta cheese mousse.

This is a combination of restaurant, pub and brewery (see p259) set in a maze of rooms resembling a network of
caverns; it is said that some of them date from 1499. The brewery was founded in the early 20th century. Book in
advance for the restaurant, which serves robust Czech pub fare.

The “Garden at the Opera” lies between the National Museum (see p258) and the State Opera. It has a
sophisticated menu, which includes imaginative salads, and the decor is modern. Outstanding value for money,

David can only be reached along a steep cobbled lane, but is well worth the climb. The gourmet set lunch of
traditional Czech specialities, including duck and rabbit, is a two- to three-hour affair. The restaurant also offers

El Gaucho is a surprisingly genuine Argentinian restaurant. The food is hearty and plentiful and steaks are
cooked on an authentic “Asado” grill. Waiters are dressed as gauchos, and there is a good choice of South

A visit to this restaurant is an unforgettable experience, due to its stunning views of the Charles Bridge (see

The chef at Mlýnec, Marek Purkart, is the first in the Czech Republic to be awarded the Michelin Bibendum three

The name of this upmarket, underground restaurant translates as “Hell”. It is located within the Strahov
Monastery complex (see p240–41), which belongs to the Order of Premonstratensians, who have been keeping
wine in their cellars since the 14th century. It offers Czech and international cuisine and a wide selection of wines.

A stylishly decorated restaurant offering superb service, the Pravda will tempt the adventurous with its beautifully
presented Asian and Scandinavian-inspired fare. This includes relatively expensive seafood dishes such as Cajun

Housed in a medieval building on Staroměstské náměstí, this much-loved inn is famous for its classic Czech cuisine

There has been a restaurant on this spot since 1543, and even then U Maliířů received high acclaim: Emperor
Rudoph II’s food tasters awarded it three royal stars. Expect the highest quality traditional and contemporary
