The interior has eight side
chapels and an ornate gilded
pulpit from the late 17th
century. The bell tower is
54 m (177 ft) high.
In front of the church is a
copy of the Monument of
Bishop Gregory of Nin by Ivan
Meštrović. The adjacent former
phar macy has many works of
art, among them some allegor-
ical frescoes by the 18th-
century painter Ivan Ranger.

Built at the end of the 18th
century, the Herzer Palace
(Palača Herzer) has housed
the Entomological Museum
(Entomološki Odjel Gradskog
muzeja) since 1954. The
museum was founded by ento-
mologist Franjo Košćec, who,
in 1959, donated his own
natural history collection to
the town. It also hosts occa-
sional themed exhibitions.

The Church of the Holy Trinity
(Crkva Presvetog Trojstvo)
dates from the early 18th cen-
tury and houses Baroque
paint ings, furnishings by local
masters and an organ with fig -
ures of angels playing instru -
ments. The neighbouring
monastery is famous for its
library, containing man uscripts,
parchments and incunabula
and some of the oldest docu-
ments written in Kajkavski
(ancient Croatian).

To the west of the castle,
this cemetery (Gradsko
groblje) is a public gar den
as well as a place of rest. It
was laid out in the early 20th
century by cemetery keeper,
Herman Haller.

1873, the National Theatre
(Narodno Kazalište) is one
of the main cultural cen tres in
the town. Dur ing summer and
autumn, theatregoers from all
over Europe come to attend
the performances here.
