One of the best places in town to sample the local fast-food speciality ćevapi, small spicy cylinders of ground
lamb and beef which are grilled and then sandwiched in a somun (springy flat bread). The place is full of football
memorabilia relating to local team Željezničar.

Warm and atmospheric, Sedef is an excellent family-run eatery both bright and spotless; the owners are
friendly and service is good. The varied menu features fresh salads, high-quality grilled meat and other traditional
dishes such as ćevapi with kajmak (a cheesy-tasting cream).

One of the Old Town’s most appealing restaurants, Morica Han is housed in a 16th-century Ottoman inn.
Diners can sit outside in the quiet cobbled courtyard and sample dishes from a meat-heavy menu such as
Sarajevo steak with cheese. Portions are large. The complex also has a lovely carpet shop.

Located on the mezzanine floor of the Holiday Inn, the National Restaurant is one of the city’s best eateries,
offering well-prepared traditional specialities and international dishes. The atmosphere is luxurious, with plush
leather chairs and immaculate service. It also boasts an extensive wine list and a delicious selection of pastries.

This delightful restaurant overlooking the picturesque Una river is by far the best spot to enjoy a break from
sightseeing. The menu features regional specialities using freshly caught fish, a few European preparations and
other popular dishes from around the country. There is often live music in the evenings.

Housed in the hotel Stari Grad, this restaurant is a cosy spot, especially when the fire is lit in winter. The menu
has an extensive choice of the area’s specialties, of which Bosnian stew is particularly recommended.

Raised above street level on a cobbled terrace, Kulluk overlooks the Neretva river, with a great view of the Old
Bridge. The menu is bound in old book covers and has been translated into innumerable languages; it offers the
usual range of Bosnian cuisine along with a good choice of pasta dishes.

In the heart of the Old Town, Lovac is a small and intimate restaurant with a fireplace. Known particularly for its
traditional cuisine, it offers meaty dishes including Travnik steak and Lovac Hunter’s steak. A reasonable selection
of Croatian and Montenegrin wine is available.

Bosnia specializes in meaty dishes with little emphasis
on salads or side dishes. Ćevapi, a kind of sausage, is a
typical offering. Hotel restau rants often have a reason-
able selection of international cuisine. Eastern sweets
such as baklava can be found in most cafés.
