Busy pavement cafés on Zmaj Jovina
ulica, Novi Sad

Serbia’s lively capital, Belgrade, stands at the
centre of the country’s transport network. Beyond
the capi tal are a number of impressive cultural
monu ments as well as picturesque towns. North
of Belgrade are the flatlands of Vojvodina, home
to the city of Novi Sad and its riverside fortress as
well as the border town of Subotica, while to the
south are the Sopoćani and Studenica monas teries.
Travelling by bus is the preferred choice of trans-
por tation; trains are crowded and can get delayed.
