The high ceilings and classic furnishings of the New Pizzico evoke a classy Italian restaurant. Although the
standards are high, the reasonably priced menu is a straightforward mix of Romanian and Italian cuisine.
The place is very popular with locals.

One of the best located restaurants in town, New Safari has a wide open terrace directly overlooking the sea
and a pleasant, simple interior with rough brick walls. Plenty of international dishes feature on the menu along
with a good range of fish dishes.

Surrounded by a forest and furnished to resemble a medieval inn, the Cutitu d’Argint fits in well with the
neighbouring Peleş Castle (see pp582–3). Its long wooden tables, low-hanging chandeliers and grand
fireplace are the perfect setting in which to devour one of the restaurant’s specialities: whole roasted piglet.

This charming Italian restaurant has a great location, with outdoor tables on a cobbled street right next to the
Brukenthal Museum. Its interior is intimate and welcoming and the menu offers a wide range of pizza and
pasta as well as fish dishes.

This 15th-century house is popularly believed to have been the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (see p586),
after murals depicting his likeness were uncovered here in the 20th century. It now houses a large and rather
gloomy restaurant with exaggerated Gothic decor serving mid-range international cuisine.

Housed in an atmospheric 400-year-old building, the restaurant lies deep in the cellars of the Sighişoara
Hotel and features exposed stonework and subtle Gothic decor. Meals are prepared to a high standard, with
specialties such as roast duck with cabbage.

Situated just off the main street, the Taco Loco’s Mexican menu of fajitas, burittos and chile con carne offers
a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous Romanian and Italian dishes elsewhere. Decorated in Mexican style
inside, it also has outdoor seating in a secluded courtyard.

With a capacity of 450, the lovely Casa de Piatra is more suited to wedding parties than intimate dinners, but
the cuisine is of a high standard. Typical sumptuous Bucovinian dishes can be sampled along with numerous
other international options.

Located on the central square, this simple restaurant split over two floors attracts a constant flow of diners. It
offers a good selection of local dishes, pasta and pizza, all served in generous portions. The staff is extremely helpful
and polite. Regular culinary art exhibitions are also held at the restaurant.

The Concordia is refreshingly modern in its design and has an excellent international menu; the beef steak is
highly recommended. A separate Chinese menu prepared by a resident Chinese chef is also on offer. The
restaurant can be accessed via the hotel lobby (see p597).

The Cucina Moderna is an inviting, family-run restaurant with an emphasis on both Romanian and Italian
cuisine. The Italian-trained chef prepares exquisite daily specials to supplement the main menu, which
features some delicious soups and an array of traditional drinks.

Decked out with pretty flower baskets and consisting of a few outdoor tables aboard an old ship in Tulcea’s
harbour, Made in Italy is a lovely spot for a meal. The cuisine is predictably Italian and features dishes that
are reasonably good.
