DRIVE 20: Mountain Roads and Vineyards
PLAN YOUR DRIVE
Start/finish: Baden-Baden to Durbach.
Number of days: 3 days, allowing half
a day in Baden-Baden.
Distance: 137 miles (220 km).
Road conditions: Roads are well
paved but often steep and twisting,
though driving is not particularly
difficult. In winter, snow can cover
higher portions of the drive.
When to go: This drive is possible
throughout the year, although the
higher points may be blocked by snow
between December and March.
Opening times: Most attractions open
daily. Shops open from 9am to 5pm on
weekdays; and close early on Saturdays
and remain closed on Sundays. Restau-
rants generally close at 10pm.
Main market days: Freudenstadt: Sat.
Shopping: The boutiques of Baden-
Baden sport an array of luxury goods,
while the vineyards and wine-sellers
along the Badische Weinstrasse offer
an excellent selection of local vintages.

DAY TRIP OPTIONS
Visitors interested in traditional rural
life can follow the tour through the
Gutach Valley where the open-air
museum is a highlight, while families
can head to Europa-Park where there
are many attractions to fill the day.
Wine lovers can take a relaxed tour of
the Badische Weinstrasse and Durbach,
where lovely walks pass through
